Team application lead for position controls for an electric rope shovel project. Technical lead for brake based anti-lock braking and traction control systems. Piloted “L8 Lite” test benches that permit several sub-teams to exercise their software contributions in a hardware in the loop, full mine site environment at minimal cost. Demand for the L8 Lites quickly ramped to seven total benches and the project was a finalist for the 2016 Chairman's Sustainability Award. Performed development and troubleshooting with CANanlyzer, Wireshark, and tools we created ourselves.

Integrated Power Systems (IPS)On loan to a research team, performed coding, testing, and support of office based semi-autonomous machine functions (C# on Windows) in an agile environment. Supported Arch Coal, a development partner at the Black Thunder Mine. Wrote scripts in Powershell to support data transfer for site analytics. We began migration of this research architecture to an onboard controller (C++ on Linux). Piloted VMware virtual machines and controllers to simulate one semi-autonomous machine and the office support system in advance of planned integration schedule.

Integrated Power Systems (IPS)Resolved all CX-31 power shift transmission shift control logic (SCL) issues contributing to a successful launch of the Cat Vocational Truck. Modified SCL to detect and support the different needs of CT15 engines. Performed design reviews, worked with Navistar performance engineers, and performed validation of the resulting feature and changes using Dynasty/Matlab models, spreadsheets, and in-chassis work.

This team used virtual product development, hardware in the loop simulators, and hydraulic power solution simulators (HPS2’s) to create power solutions that were more productive, burned less fuel and met all customer requirements. Transitioned the original power solution simulator from a proof of concept test cell for one excavator program to professionally run cell that effectively supports multiple power solution platforms, creating development and validation capability that did not exist prior.Supported the IPS vision by selling IPS solutions that competed with those developed independently by the excavator machine group and won the production design based on merit. Team gained the machine groups confidence and successfully transitioned from a consultant role to an integral part of the machine group's team.Trained in DMAIC and DMEDI, achieved PDCOE 6Sigma black belt certification.Served at a transmission subject matter expert on the SAE J1939 committee.

These designs use microprocessor driven diesel motor control and electric over air actuators to make a conventional truck manual transmission operate similarly to an automotive automatic. Brought three different products to production. Kept one product continuously in production by resolving a potential intellectual property conflict.Experience with requirement analysis, specification writing, outsourcing, and technical project management. Performed system failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and documented system design. Conducted design and FMEA reviews internally and with all of ZF’s North American OEM customers. Maintained technical contacts with engine and truck engineering representatives in order to coordinate future development and validation activities. Familiar with the North American heavy truck and engine offerings.Wrote and executed design validation plans (DVP's). Qualified and debugged interface issues with electronic service tools. During my employment, this plant machined and assembled all of Allied's hydraulic antilock braking system units for US customers. Resident engineering functions include assisting with process validation, troubleshooting non-conforming processes, failure analysis, and the disposition of suspect material. Developed rework procedures, approved deviations, assisted with QS9000 certification, and coordinated prototype builds.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Developed embedded control software for light truck anti‑lock braking systems. Wholly responsible for algorithm design to integrate electronic, electric, and hydraulic subsystems on multiple production programs. Used vehicle testing, vehicle open loop simulators, vehicle hardware in the loop simulators, and software simulations to develop and validate algorithms to meet all customer diagnostic, failsafe, and performance requirements. Conducted training for calibration engineers. Two US ABS patents awarded.

Graduated from EDS' Engineering Systems Development program. Served as an EDS account representative for a General Motor’s engine and component test lab. Performed real time software maintenance and development for a body, chassis, and power train lab. Responsible for the computer control and data acquisition systems for both an environmental chamber facility and an engine emissions system.
