M.Ed. Global Perspectives: Teaching, Curriculum, and Learning Environments

As a board member, I help keep the school on track, and set policies. We also plan the vision and goals for the school district, and hold the district accountable for results. I contribute my knowledge and understanding while collaborating and working as a team with other board members.

In this key leadership role, I report to the Director of IST. I oversee all aspects of the Middle Years Program. I’m responsible for the implementation of the MYP in grades 6-10 and ensure that the mission and vision of the school are fulfilled within the classroom. Working closely with faculty, staff, parents, and students, I provide pedagogical leadership in areas such as curriculum content, scope and sequence, assessment, and evaluation. My specific responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to: Teaching within the Middle Years Program; working directly with the Director of IST to carry out the implementation of the MYP; working with teachers to ensure they understand the curriculum and assessment requirements of the MYP; communicating with teachers about changes to courses of study, assessment requirements, and administration; working with teachers in curriculum documentation; responsibility for monitoring the effective implementation of key and related concepts and global contexts in the curriculum; communicating with the IBO as required; ensuring that the school has a means of support for IB candidates for whom the language of instruction is not their mother tongue.

International School of Tallinn is a new school located in Ülemiste City. Our school provides a quality international experience, with English as the language of instruction. We strive to enable children to become motivated and flourishing global citizens.

Mount Vernon is a small town in central Ohio with about 17,000 people. With a good balance between a growing industry and a small home-town feel, Mount Vernon seems to be the perfect little place to live with a solid university to help the community flourish. Mount Vernon as a college town has been impacted by the student involvement by the amount of volunteers and practicing of careers in the community. Mount Vernon Nazarene University is a place where one can safely move out of childhood and into adulthood with the help and guidance of knowledgeable and understanding faculty and staff.

T2M is an after-school program that allowed the students at Centerburg High School be "true to myself". Students were able to come to the after-school program from 3:00-6:00 and get help in their academics. As a staff member at T2M, we would have the students work on homework for about an hour and 15 minutes, if they would like to continue working after that time they were able to but not required to. After homework and academic-help time was over, we would do activities like fishing, biking, basketball, and board games with the students. The students often turned to T2M staff for advice for what was going on in their lives and how to deal with situations. T2M was a segue into helping students get their lives on track and their priorities straight with their education and long-term goals.

Camp Neosa is a summer camp that is run by the Salvation Army. Camp Neosa is open for about 9 weeks a summer and also has off-season events that are held on the camp grounds. Giving children with a low socioeconomic status the opportunity to get an amazing week long summer camp experience, Camp Neosa is dedicated to helping kids not only enjoy their childhood but also begin, continue, or re-devote a relationship with Jesus Christ. As a Unit Leader for the two summers I worked there, I was able to help children grow in their faith and guide them in becoming good examples for their peers and friends in a mature safe way. Many staff and campers come to Camp Neosa as strangers and leave as life-long friends and family.
