I am a hardworking, self-motivated student looking to make an impact in eastern North Carolina's agricultural sector while studying crop production at North Carolina State University. As a Plant & Soil Science major, I am motivated by reducing environmental impacts by the use of precision agriculture and helping farmers become more profitable. How can we improve soil health? How can we improve crop yields? How can farmers become more efficient in their operations? How can we reduce pest and disease pressure in our fields? As I am driven by the above questions, I have taken several crop science courses to help address these problems. I have had first-hand experience working as an agronomist/assistant farm manager with these issues while working as an intern at Vick Family Farms. I hope to continue to put my experiences and education to work there in the future.I am able to manage crews of 45, or more, migrant workers to carry out various farm-related tasks including setting sweet potatoes, cropping tobacco, and harvesting sweet potatoes. I can adequately communicate, in Spanish, with the hired labor. I can communicate well with chemical representatives to inquire about necessary inputs for the operation. I am skilled in sweet potatoes, tobacco, soybeans, corn, wheat, cotton, and hemp production and scouting practices. I am also skilled in John Deere precision agriculture technology and sweet potato packing facility technology. Outside of my education, I am very active in Ducks Unlimited, Bailey Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wilson County 4-H livestock program. I enjoy giving back to my community through these organizations.
