DeWayne Howell has 35 years of experience in the design, analysis, development, and fabrication of composite structures. He holds an aerospace engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati and is the inventor of CompositePro software (currently offered by Autodesk as Helius Composite), which is used all over the world.Previous work includes several years with Fiberforge, an advanced thermoplastic composites development and fabrication company. Here he designed and analyzed an entire thermoformed floor system for the CH-53K cargo helicopter. As the director of engineering for CompositeTek, DeWayne managed the engineering staff. Prior to CompositeTek, he worked for StorageTek, Advanced Composite Technology, ATK, and NASA Langley.DeWayne is the director of the Rocky Mountain SAMPE chapter, has authored 12 technical papers, and has been nominated for a SAMPE fellow. In 2016 he presented a tutorial on Thermoplastics Composites at SAMPE and was Co-General Chairman for CAMX 2016. In 2015 DeWayne authored 2 design guides: "Tips and Guidelines for Stamp Forming", and "Long Chopped Fiber Compression Molding Design Guide". He occasionally teaches a training seminar for Autodesk's Helius Composite software. In 1998, he received the award for composites excellence form ACMA, the Silver Level Technical Excellence award from StorageTek, the Chairman’s Quality award from StorageTek, and served as the General Technical chairman for the 1999 and 2004 SAMPE International Technical Conferences. In 2008 DeWayne authored and taught the "Design & Analysis of Composites" tutorial presented at the SAMPE International Symposium. In 2018 he received the technical excellence award from TenCate Advanced Composites.
