I am very humbled and grateful to be here today to continue to forge through life's challenges, to celebrate triumphs, and remain resilient amid adversities. Most importantly, I'm proud that I have the will or strength to navigate new significance in both my personal and professional life. Like many of you, I was laid off from my job at the beginning of the pandemic. I worked for some amazing companies who gave me opportunities to showcase my abilities, skills, and strengths. Also to take on leadership roles when called upon. I thrive to be inspired and motivated to push beyond barriers. Needless to say, I pride myself for my many accomplishments that others in my situation may never have achieved. But my work is not yet done. After 2 life threatening heart surgeries in 2020 and 2021, exactly one year apart, the only real measure of success I can grade is the fact that I am alive. I am blessed with an amazingly supportive and loving wife, Brenda, and our 2 dogs (Sherman and Athena) who continue to help in my physical and mental health recovery. I'm grateful that my parents are alive to witness their son continuing his resiliency to overcome barriers and to achieve what many would think only the privileged can.I graduated from high school as one of the first in my family. Then relocated to the state of Wisconsin where I eventually acquired my bachelor of arts degree from the UWEC-Eau Claire. I fundamentally believe everyone deserves an equal opportunity in the job force. The opportunity to be interviewed and employed on the merits of their educational background and work history within last 7-10 years. Without this fundamental right of equal employment opportunity, one can not effectively and meaningfully demonstrate their skills, work ethics, trainability, or continue as a contributing member of society.Many minority candidates seeking employment are denied pre-qualified positions where there is great need to fill. The criminal background screenings, which go beyond 7-10 years disqualify many. Sadly rather than being hired by verified work history/references, the background screenings have become the deciding factor. Unfortunately I am no exception to the rules. My past isnt pretty, but it shouldn't define who I am as an INDIVIDUAL. I am many things just as I would presume you are. We need to have an equal footing at an opportunity for growth, experience and success like everyone else. Ultimately, I'll eventually retire comfortably and feel happy.
