I managed a project to refine and organize maintenance management processes and documentation for a mid-size organization in Miami.

I worked in the Operations section of a Transportation Battalion (organization of roughly 350 truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, other logistics specialist and support personnel). My main responsibilities included developing the annual training/operations plan, and monitoring and controlling a series of projects under the unit training program. I directly supported the core leadership team, with meeting and event coordination, communication of organizational goals, objectives, and initiatives.

Afghanistan

We had less than 6 months to get $834 million dollars of trucks, heavy equipment, mobile runway material, communications equipment, and other less easily classified materials out of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. As the Assistant Operations Officer, my main roles were to conduct quality assurance to ensure the accuracy of the data, and performance analysis to report and forecast progress. Additionally, I was responsible for managing internal and external stakeholder relationships through key leader engagements. Where I ensured all parties understood our operational processes, and mediated conversations among internal staff members.After 6 months of extended hours, and a demanding operational tempo, we moved the equivalent of 409 C-17 Cargo aircraft, and we met the October deadline. I was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for professional achievement in superior performance of my duties.

Leadership: inspire greatness through coaching, mentoring, and setting the example. As a mid-level manager responsible for a group of logistics support specialist, I devoted myself to ensuring that I positively influenced the careers and lives of the roughly 50 Marines. I sought out unique training opportunities to maintain their aircraft and amphibious craft familiarization (unique because we were located in the middle of the desert), managed all of their administrative requirements, taught them planning and analysis frameworks, coached them through personal issues, and represented them in arbitration and legal matters. This was the most rewarding opportunity to date.

I worked in the Transportation Organization’s Logistics Office, in roles of increasing responsibility up to Organizational Logistics Officer. My responsibilities included developing support plans to facilitate operational requirements and organizational objectives. Monitor and control material acquisitions and maintenance utilizing Oracle based software.Very early in my career, I was responsible for millions of dollars of equipment and charged with supporting complex operations. I quickly gained organizational skills to manage the onslaught of meticulous tasks from multiple sources, interpersonal skills to build working relationships that I would rely on for the rest of my career, and communication skills to manage the expectations of senior stakeholders.
