Dexter Allen is an Applied and Computational Mathematics major interested in data analytics and artificial intelligence. Dexter is pursuing A minor in statistics and a course load that broadens his skill set within computer science and data engineering. Dexter has been involved in multiple campus organizations, joining the fraternity Pi Kappa Phi, the Salsa Dance Team, and the National Society of Black Engineers.Dexter is currently a Student Assistant at the San Jose State Virtual Reality Lab. Dexter is working on motion capture using AI and the Noitem VPS System. He has won a grant to create a mixed-media dance performance and plans to use the motion capture systems to animate dancers' movements. Dexter is also president of the San Jose State AR/VR Club at San Jose State. As president, Dexter oversees an executive board where his team has quintupled the club membership, hosted VR Socials and developed the XR Project Program. This program has produced VR games and Haptic wearables. Dexter was previously employed as a research intern at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Among other things, this laboratory shoots electrons at 99% the speed of light down a three-mile long linear accelerator. Using PyTorch, Tkinter, and other Python libraries, Dexter developed a machine-learning model to decrease the time it takes to steer the beam in the LTU section. After presenting his findings and recommendations to scientists on the LCLS team, Dexter won second place out of his intern cohort for best poster presentation and most impactful intern project.Currently, Dexter is seeking to broaden his horizons within the neuroscience field. Dexter plans to pursue a Neuroscience PhD, and use his applied math and programming knowledge to create models of the human brain.

I trained a machine learning model for the SLAC Laboratory’s particle accelerator beam with PyTorch using 75 million magnet and positional data points after cleaning dataset of 200 million. I implemented a graphical user interface for the ml model where beam-line operators can input over 30 parameters and predict the future beam position. The model assisted beam-line operators with steering the particle accelerator. I won second place out of my cohort for most impactful intern project. Estimates show steering time decreased by half for my area of the accelerator.

I serviced 130+ customers daily using POS system in streetwear boutique, allowing new storefront to stay open. I collaborated with team members to maintain store upkeep through restocking, cleaning, and the dressing of 5 mannequins, the improved store aesthetics increased conversions by 5%

I developed a septic tank maintenance platform in SketchUp using blueprints and field measurements. The revised design allowed for a 50% reduction in maintenance time for septic drainage Using CAD software, I converted decade-old blueprints of hypo-chlorination piping to a 3D model. The new 3D model allowed engineers to visualize spatial constraints for new plumbing installation. I upgraded a model of the EBMUD De-chlorination facility by adding over 50 yards of piping. Improvements allowed engineers and contractors to locate previously un-mapped plumbing intersections. I presented my internship findings to a group of panelists an won Best Oral Presentation
