About Dezaray Hammond, Ms
I strategically select and develop effective instructional design and training facilitation teams for the US and Jamaica. Everything we do is backed by behavioral science. We don't just throw spaghetti on the wall to see if it sticks, and we don't just crack open PowerPoint and toss on boring bullet points. No one learns this way!Our training is truly different, often referred to as "a pleasant surprise."It's engaging, it's fun, it's memorable - and most importantly - learners leave our virtual and brick-and-mortar classrooms confident and able to perform back on the job. When I go to work, I get to play. I have a hard time turning the energy down because I just love what I do SO much!#1 I'm obsessed with behavioral psychology, breaking down complicated procedures, and finding creative ways to train.#2 I follow positive psychology and Strengths-based leadership. I enjoy working with new leaders on their own professional development and that of their teams.#3 I'm fascinated by the concept of building positive psychological capital (PsyCap) to increase employee engagement, performance, and JOY. We spend a lot of time at work. We ought to enjoy it!

Director Training Development
Training Manager
While I was one of many associates to be laid off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I appreciate the time I had with CDS to play to my strengths.Strategic planning, instructional design, talent development, and career growth were my key focus areas in this role. CDS is a fast-paced, collaborative environment where I thrived on not only welcoming but actively seeking new challenges. In my role as Training Manager I had the pleasure of building, onboarding, and overseeing two teams dedicated to developing a wide range of learning and development programs to serve CDS field operations in Costco warehouses across the United States. One team was local and focused on initiatives for the core business (sales associates, supervisors, and managers). The other was located in Issaquah, WA and focused on initiatives for a new sales division in the Northwest (sales specialists, managers, and field sales trainers). As a team, we accomplished many high-priority and highly-visible training initiatives in less than nine months. To name a few:2 Onboarding e-learning courses5 Sales training e-learning modules Instructor-led sales training workshop30+ unique training manuals for front-line managers35+ unique on-demand product training modules2 Live training workshops for corporate associatesTraining break-out sessions for District ManagersFront-line manager training guide and participant guideNon-food training conceptNew software e-learning training modules and job aidsField manager and trainer coaching guidesCompany-wide career growth initiativesEtc.
Training And Development Manager
As Training and Development Manager I planned, developed, and managed all aspects of training activities associated with the training and development of contact center Trainers, Agents, Mentors, and Management. I evaluated, supported, and coached Trainers to deliver engaging, interactive training sessions using a multitude of training modalities.
Training Specialist
As a Training Specialist I partnered with the Director of Coaching and Development in initiatives by identifying needs and designing, delivering and measuring the effectiveness of programs developed. I also both lead and assisted in the creation of learning materials and modifying/updating training content to ensure information was current and relevant. I collaborated with a strong Instructional Designer where we fueled each other’s passions and consistently delivered truly “different” webinars and participant guides as a team. I facilitated workshops and presentations, and planned, organized, and implemented training activities. In this role I applied psychological principles to the workplace through research and development.
Organizational Engagement Intern And Admin Assistant
As an Organizational Engagement Intern I applied psychological theory to the current human resource needs of the company. I researched and organized professional learning opportunities for employees and conducted focus group interviews throughout the organization to gain an understanding of the overall company culture in order to assist in selecting future employees who "fit". As an Admin Assistant I assisted with the development of organizational tools for prospecting future clients and employees. I also aided in the organization of company events and various other duties as requested. I focused great energy on continual improvement of employee engagement and motivation, as this is my passion!
Financial Services Manager
As a Financial Services Manager (FSM) I oversaw the student re-entry process as it pertains to financial aid. I am knowledgeable in Federal Student Aid and loan default prevention programs, and was empowered to drive performance of the San Diego Re-entry Specialist team. The Re-entry team is responsible for thoroughly reviewing student accounts to ensure they will have sufficient funding to return to the University and complete their degree program. In addition to activities related to these policies and processes, I focused my energy on creating a participative environment whereby team members felt enabled and responsible to overcome obstacles and develop meaningful relationships both within and outside the organization. In this role, I electively participated in workgroups that sought to redesign the standard operating procedures of many finance-related areas and other "big picture" challenges.Perhaps the most meaningful aspect of my position as an FSM was my involvement in a workgroup that focused on further developing Financial Services Leads. This opportunity provided bi-monthly workshops for Leads across all Ashford University locations on the topics of overcoming team challenges, public speaking, and professional presence. We also implemented a mentorship program that allowed Leads to select a mentor to meet with on a regular basis to work together on goal setting and attainment. The mentor portion of the program proved effective as I still maintain regular contact with my mentee who has grown to become a positive influence in my own life.
Accounts Receivable Specialist
As an Accounts Receivable Specialist (A/R Specialist) I was responsible for managing hundreds of student accounts. I ensured students were up to date on their school payments and were properly packaged for Financial Aid awards. I counseled students on their individual accounts and the Financial Aid process. In addition to these day-to-day activities I worked alongside like-minded organizational members to develop and facilitate a strengths-based leadership development program that we called Synergy and Development (or S&D). This program was implemented on three Financial Services teams as part of their regular team meetings, offering employees the chance to further enhance their talents at work and in their personal lives through activities that focused on public speaking, team-building, communication, professionalism, etc. As in any organization, change was constant in the Financial Services department. I saw an opportunity to bring the CA A/R Specialist teams together to collaborate on creating more efficient strategies to accomplish our goals. I organized and facilitated a Best Practice share that gave each A/R Specialist a chance to share their best practices that they believed would be helpful for others to adopt. This meeting provided a creative space for reorganizing our day to become more effective A/R Specialists while including all members who rarely had the opportunity to communicate with one another.
Financial Services Advisor
Ashford University offers online AA, BA and MA degree programs. As a Financial Services Advisor (FSA) I was in constant communication with online students to ensure they understood the student Financial Aid process. I assisted students as they completed the necessary documentation for Financial Aid packaging and ensured they were packaged properly. In addition to these responsibilities I was selected to participate in a rigorous 6-month Future Leaders Program (FLP) whereby I worked with mentors and coaches who were leaders in the organization as I developed professionally. Through this program I had the opportunity to work alongside executive leadership members in community outreach as well as self-discovery roundtable meetings, professional presentations, a public speaking workshop and peer-to-peer coaching.
Leadership Coach
After my previous experience with SBSD (see below), I had to come back for more! As a Leadership Coach, I oversaw the Leadership program. I developed the leadership curriculum for the college-student teachers and facilitated a professional development forum that provided incoming teachers a taste of the fun-loving culture at SBSD. This new role allowed me to demonstrate my facilitation skills while further developing my public speaking ability. It was a new challenge to oversee a team of educators, as well as develop a system for student assessment at the end of the summer. I remain in contact with teachers and staff of the SBSD program, and I still journal lesson plan ideas to help facilitate learning should I return to this family in the future.
7Th/8Th Grade Leadership And English Teacher
Summerbridge San Diego (SBSD) is a rigorous academic and leadership summer school program for elementary and middle school students. What is unique about SBSD is the teachers. Current college students and recent college graduates co-teach their own classrooms and enrich the lives of students through their perspective on the importance of a college education. As a Leadership and English teacher, I collaborated with other college students and graduates to create lesson plans that would actively engage young students and offer a fun way to learn. I involved my students in activities that focused on their future and demonstrated that regardless of where they came from and the struggles they have faced, they can get what they want out of life through intention, goal setting, practicing decision-making and problem-solving skills, taking responsibility for themselves, and acting only in ways that would serve themselves and others on their journey. Throughout my teaching experience with SBSD I encountered learning-thirsty students and teachers. I discovered a diverse team of dedicated individuals with one goal in mind - positive influence.
