My friends have affectionately and teasingly referred to me as "The Database". This is probably due to the fact that I've been googling things I find interesting since I was 9 years old. It started with movies and books. I would read something or watch something and look it up online. I would read about the story or the history around it being made. I would look up the author or I would look up actors/directors/etc. Then I would look up their other work. Flash forward to present day, where I can tell you (without needing to look it up) that Vin Diesel's birth name is Mark Sinclair, he's super into D&D and to help him break his way into the industry, he wrote/directed/produced/starred in his own short film. And Vin Diesel isn't even my favorite actor. Now, I will add... after writing that I DID look it up to make sure this was all correct because as much as I love storing nonsense in my head, I do not like spreading misinformation. This may seem like a random story, but I swear it has a point. From a young age, I have realized that you can pretty much learn whatever you want to with a curious mind, the internet and a library card and/or local bookstore. No answer is really off limits; you just have to know where to look. My background has primarily been in customer service. I truly believe that we are all interconnected and small positive interactions can be the beginning of bigger change. I value compassion, kindness and equity and my values are never off the clock. So for the most part, customer service was an easy fit. But it was missing something: me. My own needs and desires, passions and wants, my own sense of self was not served by this. I need creative fulfillment and something that truly engages my ever curious mind.Web development scratches that itch. I get to research, create, implement, share my knowledge, help others and face new and different problems every day. I get to face issues and challenges I haven't come up against before and that's exhilarating. I love not knowing the answer to something because it means I get to find it out for the first time.In my free time, I read, listen to music (mainly showtunes), play video games and watch TV. I love baking, drawing, singing and knitting. I also love to spend time with my community and my children. My kids are probably my two favorite people and I find it immensely cool that I get to teach them about the world and to hear their take on it.If you want to know more about me, please feel free to reach out or simply check out the rest of my page. I always love meeting new people :-)
