  • Microsoft Corporation
    User Experience Designer
    Microsoft Corporation Mar 2011 - Mar 2012
    Redmond, Washington, United States
-------------------------------------------------------ResponsibilitiesAs a User Experience Designer with Start-up Business Group, I was responsible for providing a broad range of design and planning duties for several projects at various stages in a production life-cycle.In the concept phase, I participated in scenario and persona development, conducted competitive analysis, collected and summarized research data and designed end-to-end user flows, wireframes and presentations. During the validation phase, I developed prototypes for usability studies, refined wireframes & user flows and delivered visual designs. In the production phase, I refined visual designs, delivered visual specifications for development, provided production support and asset creation and worked with development teams in sprint planning and agile/scrum implementation.-------------------------------------------------------AccomplishmentsWorking closely with a small team, I contributed strongly to the design of a service and mobile app that would deliver highly targeted on-demand offers to consumers and build long-term relationships between businesses and their customers by leveraging pattern recognition and machine learning and by providing a platform for multiple partners to connect consumers to the best deals on products and services they use/want/need every day. I designed a number of UI controls for a Kinect enabled consumer product which were optimized for gesture and touch input: including a very well received gesture-based scroll control for grids and long lists of content. I designed a system information architecture model for the same product focused on activities and recent use, optimized for voice and touch input, as an improvement over the previous category-based model.

I also served the role of Creative Lead for a team working on a long-term web site re-design project. -------------------------------------------------------AccomplishmentsOver the course of more than a year, I was instrumental in defining several key customer experiences for the Xbox.com site re-design, working closely with a Principal PM to define scope & features, provide visual designs and development support including final production assets, CSS design specifications, and art direction of 4 other designers. I also coordinated with an outside marketing firm to maintain consistency between top level marketing sections of the site designed externally, but developed internally, and all of the other areas that our team was responsible for designing and developing. In addition to the Xbox.com site re- design, I designed the Xbox forums site, which used a third party forum service that I also provided development support to ensure final implementation matched the design, and fit the brand of the rest of the site. I was the sole UX designer for Last.fm for Xbox LIVE, a music discovery service. This product was part of a three title console launch that included Facebook and Twitter. The launch of these titles was a very aggressive timeline; 6 months from concept to launch. I was also the lead designer on the Facebook application, and the technical liason between all of the development teams and the designers working on the project. My first project for this team was to re-design the MSN Casual Games Badges program, a reward system where customers earn badges for various accomplishments playing popular web games like Bejewelled, Bubbletown and Plants vs Zombies.
