Qtc Scientist
Current● Staff scientist in the Walsworth lab at the Quantum Technology Center, University of Maryland.● Lead researcher in effort to develop a directional dark matter detector using nitrogen vacancy centers (NVs) in diamond● Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in developing quantum sensors with NVs and other spin qubit platforms
Visiting Pre-Doctoral Fellow In Physics (Gabrielse Lab)
Graduate Student Researcher, Gabrielse Lab
● Key member of the ACME EDM collaboration, which seeks to probe new physics by making the world's most precise measurement of the shape of the electron's charge or electron electric dipole moment (eEDM). The ACME experiment measures the eEDM by performing quantum spin precession on a cold beam of thorium monoxide (ThO) molecules.● Lead researcher in performing a precise measurement of the lifetime of the H-state of ThO, enabling an order of magnitude increase in statistical sensitivity in the upcoming ACME III experiment● Set up, maintained, and troubleshooted various stabilized diode and YAG laser systems and free space optics● Set up, developed, and tested high-throughput data acquisition hardware and software for main ACME II experiment● Successfully improved the parallelization and efficiency of the ACME III data acquisition system to enable 10x more data throughput● Developed a complete suite of independent data analysis code in Mathematica for main ACME II eEDM data● Developed and maintained core ACME experimental control software system and SQL database logging system● Designed, simulated, and tested new collection optics for ACME III experiment using ray-tracing software, resulting in experimentally demonstrated 60% signal increase● Maintained and operated cryogenic buffer gas beam source, including working with radioactive materials (ThO)● Collaborated with multiple graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in designing, building, and analyzing experiments
Teaching Fellow
Teaching Fellow for Applied Physics 50A under Prof. Eric Mazur, a project- and team-based introduction to physics. For the first time, the course was held entirely virtually. Participated in planning and implementation of the course, designed and graded problem sets concerning Newtonian mechanics, taught and mentored students in individual and group settings.
Music Director & Dudley Fellow
● Music Director of the Dudley World Music Ensemble at Harvard University, an ensemble consisting of about 20 musicians from a diverse range of musical traditions around the world.● Planned and led weekly rehearsals with 10-25 musicians● Composed and arranged folk, classical, and popular songs from diverse musical traditions for a variety of instrumental combinations● Coordinated logistics, publicity and musical content for two major concerts a year.
Undergraduate Researcher
● Investigated direct optical pumping techniques (pulsed pump-then-probe and continuouspumping) for co-magnetometer apparatus.● Programmed control systems and automation routines in LabView.● Built, operated, and maintained lasers, optics, lock-in ampliers, photodiodes, and electroniccircuits.
It Supervisor/Specialist
● Provided technical computer and IT support via the college's helpline. ● Supervised and maintained the college's computer centers.
Physics Teaching Assistant/Grader
Conducted homework help sessions and graded problem sets on introductory Newtonian mechanics.
Summer Research Fellow
Ran simulations on Mathematica to study the effect of the Earth's magnetic field on electrons inside the Earth (2 publications).
Visiting Undergraduate Research Fellow In Physics
● Worked for ACME EDM collaboration under the supervision of Prof. David DeMille (Yale University).● Simulated particle dynamics in MATLAB and COMSOL to design an electrostatic lens forcold molecular beam.● Trained in intermediate machining (built a steam engine).
