A most engaging current activity is project managing the collective owner sale of the CBD apartment block I live in, as Chair of the body corporate committee. Taking that role in Sept 2020 my first task was to get the last 8 (out of 36) owners to sign a sale agreement before we could begin marketing. We’re now all signed up and just appointed a commercial agent.

The long-established Delta Software IT improvement business, now sold, has shifted me into project consulting as 'charIT growth'. Working with non-profits to get new projects delivered, get legacy IT updated, get cloud systems working for better collaboration & business innovation. Working with selected fundraising and business performance vendors to focus on the digital transition that non-profits need to make, but most are under-resourced for. Three recent projects - cloud migration for a sizable environmental trust that is very active in their community; project managing a new fundraising tool deployment (Vega); and project director for a national rehab service building a mobile app that helps cancer patients recover health & fitness after treatment.

Organising a Digital Leadership workshop with experienced colleagues & the IT Transformation Institute (www.transformingit.org). How to leverage the disruptive influences from technology innovations. We're well past the beginning of a major platform shift equivalent to the advent of client-server PC networks - but with a much bigger IT disruption impact. Resources are critical, investment decisions are inter-dependent and leadership for change is as critical as ever.

On expedition from June through early Sept, running environment & community projects with volunteer teams. Just completed 3 projects, all involved developing leadership skills for the volunteers, developing their confidence & guiding them to explore their natural leadership qualities better. These young would-be leaders experience why it's essential to have a truly supportive & motivated team. As volunteer managers we use a personal development framework to help individuals make a direct personal connection, learn specific leadership skills, and at the same time be authentic as people. The immersive experience is a great way to soften attitudes and biases, enabling real learning come naturally. As project managers responsible for project delivery through the team we also have the opportunity to use the leadership toolkit to develop our own awareness & learn, support each other.Result - a huge motivational shift as people develop skills & confidence, leading to all project goals done ahead of time. In a couple of cases we were so productive we ran out of materials.

This team experience comprised two goals1. Run a community centre upgrade with a team of youth volunteers, to ensure three objectives * a great result for the village community * an excellent Raleigh project delivery * personal development for the volunteers Result - a big win for the Kampong Liu community who now have a brand new public toilet, a secure & covered rainwater supply, and an upgraded community centre.2. Complete a 1-week adventure challenge as a volunteer team manager, with the goals of a) completing all challenges successfully b) winning the competition c) personal growth for team members Result - our Zulu team came 2nd overall, very close in points & won many team challenges.Excellent stretch experience on several grounds – learning how Raleigh does field operations, engaging with the community for shared goals, achieving a visible result with a young & learning team, and helping each other push well beyond the usual comfort zones to knock off one challenge after another.

Establish a new Service Management practice for ViFX that delivers the IT transformation business needs to improve operational efficiency. IT must become a way to expand business capability. IT service management is many things, but first must deliver operational efficiency to enable business to optimise IT performance and focus on innovation.In August 2012 after several months careful evaluation, we made a major commitment to Cherwell Service Manager as the primary ITSM platform for our business. Shortly afterwards, Cherwell appeared in Gartner's revised ITSSM magic quadrant for the first time, and straight at 3rd place. A heavyweight challenger indeed. We picked the same attributes - a true cloud-aware ITSM platform with a reputation for good deployment, and that supports multiple device access, flexible licensing and a host of smart usability features.

A start-up in the IT service sector we built a market for the Gupta SQLWindows development kit, and started selling a Windows helpdesk app. That app evolved into a major service management tool, infraEnterprise, still used by many NZ corporates. As the local reseller we focused on excellent project delivery, customer support, and the process skills needed to effectively turn customer service requirements into business deliverables.

As a software-centric IT person I found a useful slot understanding the partner business & empathising with their needs.My most memorable achievement - running a Christmas food campaign for homeless & needy families. In 3 weeks we raised nearly $3,000 for the Salvation Army mission, a decent sum in 1987.
