Saving Lives One Mile At A Time!
Team In Training - San Diego Chapter
Greater San Diego Area
I started training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma society's Team In Training (TNT) athletic endurance program in 1998. I ran the first Rock N' Roll Marathon here in San Diego... all 26.2 miles. My life went from couch potato to athlete. Since then, I've completed several full marathons & 1/2 marathons, many Olympic distance triathlons and a few 1/2 IRONMANS (1/2 IRONMAN consist of 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride & ending with 13.1 mile run), several Century bike rides and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro which is the roof top of Africa at 19,341 feet. While doing all of this training I've raised over $75,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It started out as my charity of choice from 1998 to 2004. In April of 2004 by loving husband was the 1st person in my life to be diagnosed with Lymphoma. That was a surreal moment. He fought a courageous battle that was lost July 14, 2010. Also lost my dad, Sal in December 2009 to Lymphoma. Years later I am still as passionate about the cause, it’s part of being, my mission in my life and I am greatly motivated by the fact that too many children still lose their lives to cancer. We have come a long way with treatments for childhood cancer. In 1964, a child's chance of surviving acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, was 3%. Today about 90% of children survive. That is great but not acceptable, we want 100%. This is still my underlying why I am still fundraising for LLS. If you want to contribute you can donate on the link below. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible and I gratefully welcome donations of any size. Thanks, Denise
