I returned to Housing Justice Project as one of the first organizations providing a right to counsel for indigent tenants in eviction matters. I currently work on a team working on appeals, trials, and revisions for tenants who are past their initial show cause hearing.

With the Tenant Law Center, I worked on addressing the homelessness crisis in King County. As a staff attorney with the Barriers Clinic, I have represented homeless families in addressing legal barriers to becoming successfully rehoused. This largely has meant working on disputing, negotiating, and settling landlord debt using flexible financial resources, with the goal of ensuring that these monies are only paid when they further the goal of ending a family's homelessness. I have engaged in a motions practice to address eviction records to the furthest extent available under Washington State law. We worked closely with community partners to educated clients of their rights as prospective tenants. I also worked as an advocate for tenants who were facing homelessness to help preserve their housing and Section 8 vouchers to ensure long-term stability.

My volunteer work with HJP led to a contract staff attorney position which ended at the end of December 2017. My experience with HJP has allowed me to develop a high legal competency in landlord/tenant law, housing subsidy programs focused on low-income tenants, and the complexities surrounding housing the homeless, as well as a high cultural competency working with low-income clients with language barriers, mental and physical disabilities, and substance abuse issues. In addition to my work at HJP, I have worked with KCBA's Public Policy Committee to advocate for reforming the citizen initiative process.

Shortly after passing the bar, I took up a regular volunteer position with HJP assisting low-income tenants in King County facing eviction. I provided counsel and advice, advocacy, negotiation and limited representation to hundreds of low-income clients.

In my first position after becoming an attorney, I worked as a solo practitioner primarily in consulting for local small businesses and entrepreneurs, ranging in such issues as entity formation, document drafting, securing intellectual property rights, and working with independent contractors. I closed up shop to pursue my goal of working in the public interest full-time.
