As a former national-level school basketball player, I was fascinated to discover the collaboration between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Microsoft Azure, resulting in the innovative NBA CourtOptix platform which utilizes (ML) and (AI) to analyze on-court player movements in the cloud, providing fans with detailed insights into every shot. Having completed my bachelor's in Computer Science, I stepped into the AI industry with Quantiphi, serving as a business analyst. My time there equipped me with copious learnings apart from the chance of collaborating with numerous amazing people across different teams, business units and job roles. Being a product manager brings you at the pivot of your project and much of its success depends on how efficiently you handle the different dynamics going in and out of the engagement. My responsibilities were no short of the aforementioned description. Right from stakeholder collaborations to delineating minutes of stand-up meetings, the various other tasks that I practiced each day involved handling the activities of a mid-sized 20 member scrum team, crafting quarterly product roadmaps, removing any impediments in the progress of individual team members, making compelling research reports packed with data-driven insights about the potential opportunities and known flaws for the betterment of the future iterations of the product. I believe transparent communication and understanding of the gaps at regular intervals plays a big role in any project/product’s success. More often than not, this gap happens to be observed between business level people and technical side of the team. Thus, with a vision to blur the boundaries between the ignored unknowns hindering smooth cross-functionality within teams, and a goal to bridge the gap between the technological feasiblity and business requirements, I’ve currently set out to pursue a Master’s program at Carnegie Mellon University. I firmly believe that equipping myself with the domain knowledge I need to link both these sides will complement my experience in the role of a product manager and the blend of both shall help me reach what I seek to achieve. My short term interests and goals lie in roles like Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Analyst, Product management; so that I can get my hands dirty with data besides management, and eventually, I see myself transitioning into a more accountable post like Product Owner.
