Profile bio

About David Hecker

My passion for creative technology started at the age of 10 with a ZX Spectrum+, designing and building my own custom circuit boards and writing the software in BASIC to make them do fun things over the serial port of the ZX Interface 1 expansion board.Since those heady days, I've amassed over 20 years experience in the television, animation, game development and related industries, with a particular focus of late on managing multi-disciplinary teams of varying sizes. I am also an experienced game designer, animation director and project manager, alongside a number of years teaching various disciplines in animation.I've worked as an animation director and technical lead on a variety of 2d animated series for the likes of Disney Channel, Wish Films, Cookie Jar Entertainment and Big Jump Productions. As a game designer and project manager on mobile projects, I've been involved in creating games for various local and international sports teams including The Sharks, SA Cricket, Welsh Rugby Union and the English Rugby Football Union. I also designed and managed the Jungle Beat game (a supporting title for the animated series) which debuted at the top of the App Store charts in South Africa. In terms of project management of long-form interactive installations, these include projects for various high-profile museums and visitor centres in the Middle East, as well as a recently-launched local kids edutainment centre. Most days, you can find me with my head buried in a magnificent spreadsheet of some form, obsessing over the correct shade to use for conditionally formatting a formula result. My main duties at RenderHeads South Africa are to wrangle the developers and technical artists to deliver quality work on time, while maintaining a healthy work/life balance, while also fulfilling various functions within operations management, including recruiting, contracts, HR and operational efficiency.

Listed skills include Animation, Motion Graphics, Character Animation, After Effects, and 20 others.
