MACS was established in 1998 through the efforts of parents, residents, leaders and supporters to provide a dynamic learning environment for the youth in our community. Since then we've embraced challenges as opportunities to innovate, teaching through a holistic approach and establishing partnerships to create authentic learning opportunities as a free public school option.MACS is committed to providing our students a strong academic foundation and a variety of exploratory project-based experiences such as entrepreneurship, robotics, mock trials, horticulture, debates, ceramics, dance and more. MACS has been recognized nationally and locally over the past 20 years for being a pioneer in designing a creative and dynamic public school learning environment. For the past 20 years, Manchester Academic Charter School (MACS) has proudly served youth and families throughout the Pittsburgh region as a pioneering public school option by empowering our students in a dynamic learning environment. As we cherish our past and embrace the present we find ourselves even more excited of our future as we embark on a revolutionary endeavor with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in establishing The Museum Lab of Pittsburgh: A National Center for Excellence in Education.The Museum Lab will be a national model, highlighting our region’s collaborative commitment to public education, innovation and experiential learning. The design, purpose and operations of the facility will bring experts, ideas and resources together under one roof to prepare youth and families to face the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
