Technical Lead

As a Technical lead, I had a hybrid role that allowed me to contribute both as an individual contributor and a manager. I was responsible for day-to-day development and contributed to the codebase while also managing the team's overall performance and enforcement of engineering strategy. One of my key responsibilities involved people management, where I oversaw leaves, growth, compensation and mentorship of my team. As part of the hiring team, I played a crucial role in system design interviews and feedback process, ensuring we onboarded new joiners seamlessly and got them up to speed quickly. Responsible engineering rituals such as stand-ups, retrospectives, and grooming sessions, and conducted weekly 1:1s with team reports. Additionally, technical estimations, and task distribution among team members, pairing with them to resolve blockers and helping them with their development was part of my responsibilities. My constant engagement with product managers helped drive the product lifecycle from inception to adhoc tasks adjustment, prioritization, estimation to successful delivery.

As a Senior Software Engineer, I played a pivotal role in building and shipping various financial features, such as billbook, cashbook, lending, and their iterations. Working closely with the design and product teams, I contributed to both backend, frontend development and schema/architectural decisions. Moreover, I was responsible for developing the payment processing pipeline that powered the CreditBook wallet. As the core engineer, I led the integration of third-party systems into our platform, ensuring that our customers had access to a seamless and reliable payment experience. Throughout my tenure, I also managed the release cycles to ensure smooth and timely updates to our products. Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan

As a Software Engineer, I had the opportunity to work with the Execution Environment team where I primarily focused on micro services. My responsibilities included developing new microservices as well as adding new functionality to existing ones that powered up the code execution environment in Educative platform. Working in a Test-Driven Development (TDD) environment, I ensured that all code written was thoroughly tested and met high quality standards. In addition to my work with micro services, I also contributed to both the frontend and backend of the platform. This involved collaborating with other teams to identify areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance the user experience. Overall, my time at Educative allowed me to hone my skills in software development while working on a product that has the potential to revolutionize online learning.

Aug 2021 - Oct 2021

Software Engineer

Islamabad, Islāmābād, Pakistan

As a systems and cloud software developer, I designed and built a Linux desktop application that acted as a kernel for the core service. A system-d service ensured that the app started automatically on bootup, effectively booting up the core services and other required services with ease. The GUI was optimized for touch-based input, allowing users to easily access and navigate through the functionalities. Furthermore, implementing a secure update protocol was essential, and I was able to achieve this by creating a custom docker container registry that enabled automatic updates. With this system in place, the app listens for updates, executes a bash script, pulls down the old services, starts the new services, and ensures roll-back in case of errors. This was critical in ensuring smooth operations while hiding the complexities of the system from the end-users, significantly enhancing overall user satisfaction.

Software Engineer

Federal Capial &Ajk, Pakistan

As a system's engineer, I had the opportunity to develop a monitoring and reporting tool for the main product Tango. This tool was designed to manage the complex micro services architecture that powered Tango (multiple nodes of multiple micro services) and provided real-time status updates on each service. As the only developer, I worked closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the tool met the needs of all stakeholders. This system interaction library that collected CPU/Memory information, interacted with task manager, registry editor etc required heavy usage of Win32 API and was written in C++. The server written for communication between multiple nodes and transmittance of statuses in realtime was written in Rust. The frontend tray application was written in C# with windows forms. The suite that I developed was used as a parent for the different services that powered up Tango. It collected the environment (how many nodes are live and the their meta information such as IP etc) and tracked the status of each service and reported any issues that were found. The suite was designed to work in a distributed environment, which allowed us to catch any issues before they caused significant problems. The suite's success enabled us to quickly identify and resolve any issues that arose, ensuring that Tango remained reliable and available to our customers.
