Established the UC Downtown Innovation Hub, funded through grants from the United States Economic Development Administration, City of Charleston, and Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. The Downtown Innovation Hub provides unique small business support through programming based on our Train, Mentor, Coach model. We help established, high-growth business break through plateaus in their current status.

Working closely with the administration, faculty, and staff of the university helped establish the Wehrle Innovation Center which houses technology tools and innovative curricula to introduce students across all disciplines to concepts beyond their areas of study. Using the tools and concepts of Business Model Canvas, Design Thinking, and Lean Startup, coach successful entrepreneurial students through business plan competitions and mentor young business leaders as they create and grow their startup companies. Established an entrepreneurship minor that walks students through the creative process of taking an idea through customer identification and validation to commercialization.

HCS Technologies / Brain Box LLC • 2012–present• Previously worked with HCS at WVHTC Foundation on energy efficiency/renewable energy product. Currently working directly with Owner/President in leading effort to market new product developed through years of collaboration. Partnering side-by-side with President giving presentations and demonstrations.• Involved in all technical decisions. Instrumental in keeping technical team focused and moving forward in product development/improvement. • Currently have working prototype, and in process of identifying viable 1st installation to use as showpiece for future clients. Receiving good leads/interest from federal and state agencies. WVHTC Foundation • 2013• As former manager/developer of program intimately familiar with design (strengths/weaknesses) to determine if platforms or subcomponents could be salvaged. • Performed thorough evaluation/investigation to quantify level of effort/cost to restore equipment to functionality. • Based on recommendations WVHTC Foundation re-established maintenance schedule and identified military buyer for platforms which had originally been marked for scrap.

Performed RF system simulation, design, and testing tasks on infant Bluetooth chip designs for various clients, including Agere Systems and RF Micro Devices.• Led RF system simulation effort using Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) for multi-million dollar Bluetooth microchip design. - Designed DC-offset compensation circuit for direct down-conversion, zero-IF transceiver. - Developed ADS test benches for each Bluetooth Specification requirement enabling simulation of chip performance prior to fabrication. - Discovered critical chip design flaw resulting in net savings of $250K in design cycle. • Led development of automated Bluetooth test system for 2 large integrated circuit (IC) manufacturers (Agere Systems and RF Micro Devices). Each test system was developed to perform complete suite of tests required by IEEE Bluetooth Standard for each company’s proprietary IC design.• Led team of engineers and programmers from multiple companies and multiple locations in development of automated evaluation and acceptance testing of Bluetooth chips per IEEE Bluetooth Standard.• Synchronized engineering, qualification, and fabrication test teams in 4 client locations to facilitate efficient evaluation and qualification of chip designs.
