I'm Bala, a first-year Master's student at the University of Southern California, specializing in Quantum Information Science. I’m passionate about the potential of quantum technology to revolutionize not only the IT landscape but also our understanding of information in relation to physicality. I’m proud to join the pioneers of this revolution.In 2024, I graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a degree in Computer Science and received the Summa Cum Laude distinction for my thesis on the performance of Quantum ML models in detecting depressive sentiment.During my 2023 internship as a Web Developer at Creed Interactive, I tackled a wide range of challenges—resolving critical bugs in Angular+NgRx, migrating websites in WordPress+PHP, and crafting compelling responses to requests for proposals (RFPs).Beyond my professional work, I’ve spent the last 1-2 years personally exploring Chalmers's Hard Problem of Consciousness and the representability of subjective states. Computer Science ResearcherGrouplens Research Sep 2022 - PresentI authored and defended a Summa Cum Laude thesis on the performance of 18 quantum and 6 classical ML models (including Quantum Variational Classifiers, Support Vector Machines, and Quantum Support Vector Machines) for identifying depressive sentiment in social media posts, producing novel results in the field. In addition, I investigated and advanced several NLP models, primarily Support Vector Machines, for verbal person-centeredness, achieving approximately a 1.5x improvement in prediction accuracy. I also redesigned an analytical pipeline using RegEx to scan social media posts related to drug use for estimated dates of last relapse, increasing identification accuracy by up to twice the previous rate.

Software Engineer InternCreed Interactive May 2023 - Aug 2023I contributed to both website development using WordPress and PHP as well as Angular-based projects for a long-standing client, delivering full-stack solutions across two distinct client teams. I spearheaded the resolution of a critical navigation bug, which had been backlogged for some time, on a high-traffic client website, significantly enhancing user experience for over 5,000 users. Additionally, I co-engineered Blok Party, a versatile WordPress plugin featuring over 10 reusable UI blocks developed using PHP and React JS, resulting in a more standardized UI implementation process. I also designed and implemented a comprehensive glossary with over 100 responses to requests for proposals, streamlining internal company processes and improving the probability of success in procuring new clients. -
Back-End Developer InternTreehouse Strategy May 2022 - Sep 2022I developed functionality in C#.NET to automate database updates based on specific triggers, improving system efficiency by reducing manual intervention and ensuring real-time data accuracy. I constructed and optimized SQL queries to evaluate and improve database performance. Additionally, I collaborated on refactoring the SQL database schema, which resulted in a significant reduction in data retrieval times.
