Most people I know have told me that choosing a profession or a speciality is one of the most calculated decisions they have ever made. They thoroughly researched the pros, cons, income, growth opportunities etc.. but for me, choosing a career in finance occured instinctively.I have been fascinated by the world of finance since I was 14 years old. School students usually get a little more serious about their future when they are around 14 years old. They look for the highest-paying jobs and find out what they should study in college to get employed in that field. I took another approach.I googled who were the richest people in the world and tried to find out what they did to get that rich. At the time Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates were the first and second richest people on Earth and Warren Buffet was in third place. I wasn't particular about owning an online retail business or learning to code, but I was intrigued by Mr. Buffet's job description. The more I got to know about investing the more inclined I was towards pursuing a career in finance. I was fascinated by the fact that I could be a small owner of large MNCs simply by taking part in the equity market. I researched how investors decide which company to invest in, the different products available in the securities market what I should learn to be a good investment manager etc.. and after this I decided to have a career in this industry.I chose to study Accounts, Economics, Applied Maths and Business Studies during my senior secondary days in school. I plan to specialise in Economics and Finance for my Bachelor's and go more in-depth in Finance for my Master's.I was privileged to job shadow two companies in this field. Algotrade, a strategy planning and algorithmic trading company that trades in the derivatives market and Singularity Capital, a venture platform investing in early-stage tech startups. I have learned a lot from this experience and I am eager to learn more :)I am set towards building a career in the financial services industry as a financial analyst, investment manager or investment banker, but I have kept my options open in similar professions.
