My mother tells me I'm a 'forever student'. It is telling of my desire to keep learning at every chance I can. This is important for me when working as a Librarian. I've learned no two Library jobs are the same. As such, I have gained an appreciation for my passion for knowledge, adaptability, and compassion. I am always looking to better myself both professionally and personally. Every job I've worked has held some meaning to me. Working in the service industry has taught me the following: -great customer service. -to value change-the joys of problem solving (yes problem-solving can bring joy) -some situations can be solved with a bit of empathy and a sense of humor. I love solving problems as much as I love making people laugh (knowingly and unknowingly). It has taught me to be quick on my feet (much like the ballroom dancing I love to do in my spare time). Being an art model taught me: -the importance of physical fitness.-preparation. -organization. It also taught me to value the genius, humility, and imagination that goes into making and creating art. Working at the Newport News Airport Bar for two days (I'm embarrassed to admit it, but yes, two days) taught me how important it is to know what job is for you and what job isn't for you as well as the importance of honesty. I am always learning as much as I can so I can apply myself in as many areas as possible both in and out of the Library Profession. Some things I have done in my years of work and school:-written manuals on managing bowling desks, cataloging records using MARC21, and how to use AMF POS systems-Event planning and programming at restaurants and libraries -taught people with two left feet basic dance moves in time for 'Dancing With The Stars' style ballroom dance competitions. -made children and adults both laugh and cry (tears of joy, I promise). -created an Information Organization Project plan for a small libraryIf you ever need a well-rounded young woman with a love of writing, novels, word games, and baking (talk about a fun skill), I am the young woman for you. Like I always say:"A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one".
