I work with parents to identify special education eligibility and implement services; collaborate with staff to constantly upgrade the delivery of services to students; ensure that the District complies with all local, state and federal requirements for the instruction of students with disabilities; train staff; facilitate school improvement initiatives such as the Ohio Improvement Process; manage and implement all statewide assessments for the District; provide consultation on statewide and federal reports, CCIP, etc.; edit and proofread documents generated by District.

As a Work-Study Coordinator, I served numerous school districts in Trumbull County and ensured the transition of students with disabilities from school to life after graduation, including job placement and assessment, referrals to local and state agencies for services, etc. I was awarded the Ohio Work-Study Coordinator of the Year in 1985 by the Ohio Association of Supervisors and Work-Study Coordinators.In 1994 I earned a Supervisor position and was assigned to Warren City Schools, where I worked until 2004.

Teaching students with disabilities at Girard City Schools was my first professional experience in public schools. For several years I taught grades 8-9, all subjects, in a resource room where curriculum was individualized. I was then transferred to Prospect Elementary School where I instructed students with disabilities in grades 4-7, also in a resource room. I expanded inclusion services and learned a great deal about implementing instructional strategies for higher order thinking skills from my friend and colleague, Maria Pappas.

St. Patrick'S School In Hubbard, Ohio

After a quality education at Youngstown State University, St. Pat's became my first teaching position, and it was here that I was able to grow into a creative, motivating teacher. Working with students at this age level was a perfect match for me. I also learned how to differentiate instruction here because classes were quite large then (well over 45 pupils) and students presented with a wide range of capabilities and achievement levels. Also, the St. Pat's community was wonderful-- very welcoming, family oriented and supportive of the school.

I started working as a cashier at this department store after graduating from high school. After a year of working the registers, I moved to the Service Desk, which handled returns and customer service. It was here that I matured and learned about the world, and, even better, developed life-long friendships that I still treasure today.
