Cranemere is a private holding company that partners with private middle-market companies. With permanent capital, we provide liquidity and growth equity to founder and family-owned companies that prefer a long-term, stable partner as an alternative to an IPO, trade sale, or private equity to achieve their full potential. We have no view of exiting our companies. I lead Cranemere's Consumer group, which is focused on acquiring companies in diverse consumer products and services sectors. Our areas of interest include health and wellness and "better for you" in food and beverage, personal care, and beauty. I also lead Cranemere’s work with all our operating companies to strengthen their environmental and social performance and build business value. Cranemere’s model enables long-term investments in “people and planet” that, in turn, can drive product and business model innovation, employee engagement and retention, and other sources of competitive advantage.

May 2014 - Present

Visiting Professor/Executive In Residence

Durham, North Carolina, Us

Duke University has been elevating climate change across the university and asked my good friend and colleague, Jason Scott, and me to co-teach an advanced senior seminar in the Economics department. Together we designed the course, Financing Climate Solutions in Private Markets. We have 18 fabulous students in the class, many of whom are interested in pursuing careers linked to addressing the climate crisis through business and finance. The course covers climate solutions across asset classes including venture capital and infrastructure finance, as well as sector specific solutions in clean energy, regenerative ag, sustainable forestry and oceans, and carbon markets. Policy, measurement and reporting, economic and social justice, and social movements, all of which affect investment and corporate climate activities, are also featured in the course. We have been very fortunate that a diverse group of Jason and my climate colleagues have been guest speakers so that the students can engage with seasoned practitioners. It's been a privilege to have this opportunity and another warm and purposeful homecoming to my alma mater. I am inspired to give back by sharing my passion, knowledge and experience with the next generation of leaders and I have learned a lot from the students, about their interests, their concerns and how they want to contribute to solutions. I've also taken copious notes to learn from our guest speakers' responses to the last question the students ask them: "What career advice would you give the students; what life advice would you give to your 20 year old self?"

Executive Producer

Documentary - Beyond Zero

I had the privilege of working with Nathan Havey on his first film, Beyond Zero. The award-winning documentary tells the story of Ray Anderson, founder and CEO of Interface, and his 1994 "spear in the chest moment" that sets him off on a journey to achieve zero carbon emissions at his carpet company. Beyond Zero is a hopeful and inspiring film about climate change, a story of personal redemption, of dreaming big and bold, and of organizational transformation, and the resulting business success.
