Oversaw program communications of a premier advocacy organization devoted to promoting the rights, protection, and participation of women, children, and youth displaced by war and natural disaster. • Management: As a member of the senior team, worked closely with key staff & board to set policy & strategy for the agency. Recruited and supervised consultants. Managed program aspects of the Voices of Courage annual luncheon, the organization's premier fundraising event. Oversaw honoree selection. Worked with colleagues to produce luncheon videos with outside filmmakers; write event program and script. The luncheon raises more than $650,000 annually. Managed celebrity relationships, including Liv Ullmann and Mamie Gummer.• Strategy & Marketing: Implemented the organization’s communication strategy in consultation with the director of strategic communications, Executive Director, board members, key staff, & outside consultants. Played key role in rebranding of the organization. Wrote & edited articles, op-eds, letters, & blogs for publication in journals, mainstream media, & online.• Design & Production: Wrote, edited, & designed publications, including delegation reports, manuals, brochures, newsletters, & annual report. Publications were targeted to a range of audiences, both technical & non-technical. Annually, the Women’s Refugee Commission produces 10 - 20 reports. Set editorial standards for publications. Consulted regularly with program staff, researchers, & consultants in production of communications materials to ensure high quality materials & accuracy of information. Coordinated development & redesign of organization’s award-winning website & social media sites.  Curated “Children of War, Children of Hope,” an exhibition of photographs & drawings, which was shown at United Nations headquarters, on Capitol Hill, & at galleries in Los Angeles & East Hampton.

Since 1990, I have worked as a freelance writer, editor and designer for a variety of nonprofit agencies and United Nations agencies. Clients include the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UN Population Fund, UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies, HiTOPS, Quaker United Nations Office.

• Co-edited Amnesty International USA’s three major membership publications (a newspaper, a youth magazine, and a newsletter) – developed content outline, wrote and edited articles, designed and laid out newsletter, did pre-production work on newspaper.• Prepared budget for program.
