Daily activities include executing mitigation processes for support on behalf of development, triaging requests for development engagement, verifies due diligence has been applied before handing off to development, identifies solutions that are already available, looks for commonality in support cases, documents resolutions to known issues, and assists in case resolution. As an EEE, we reduce time development spends on direct engagement in support cases. This is accomplished through case triage to confirm that existing resolution options have been performed, documented information is provided, and Task Guides exhausted before engaging development. We engage with directly with development to review trends in reported issues, identify resolution when not available, help document known issues and resolutions, and identify missing collateral needed for support to be self-sufficient. We also work directly with other teams within Microsoft to address customer issues, and work with Partners that are supporting the product. Financials includes the Accounting framework, Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Expense, and associated Reports and Data Entities. I may have missed a few. This role included supporting both AX 2012 and Dynamics 365 Financials and Operations.An average workday includes responding to up to three incoming support cases and includes a first response in either email or phone call, or re-routing to the appropriate team. Follow-up activities include setting up a phone call to understand the customer concern and defining the scope of the case in email for customer acceptance. In instances where it is a known product issue, release or information and tracking information is provided and helping the customer with a workaround if one is available. For new or undocumented issues, the case is left open while investigation proceeds based on the agreed upon scope. This may include customer calls or email communications to gather information and steps to reproduce. Updates are provided to inform customer of the status and gather additional information. This may include helping gather the steps to reproduce, working with subject matter experts within the support team, the product group Program Manager and/or feature Engineers to identify whether it is a product issue or functions as designed. If a product issue, steps to reproduce are gathered and walked on the latest version of the product to determine if it is a new product issue or regression. Occasionally, the issues handed over to a escalation engineer that is a subject matter expert or the PG for further investigation. A problem report is then created for the Product Group to review and determine next steps. During this phase, progress updates are provided. I am also engaged in project planning, resource assignments, recruiting activities, as well as my individual engineering contributions. We worked on a pre-release of the Microsoft Business Framework, working on a new from the ground up accounting application. This product that was ultimately discontinued in favor of the Axapta product line, which was acquired by Microsoft shortly Great Plains. During the transition period, I focused on obtaining certifications for IBM UDB and MS SQL Server, and earned the Database Administrator certification for both. As Expertise was in the initial stages of release, sales were discontinued. I was moved to the Great Plains Dynamics product line and worked on financials modules using Dexterity as the primary… Show more Great Plains Software acquired RealWorld in January of 2000. The RealWorld product line sales were discontinued as part of the acquisition. During the transition period, I focused on obtaining certifications for IBM UDB and MS SQL Server, and earned the Database Administrator certification for both. As Expertise was in the initial stages of release, sales were discontinued. I was moved to the Great Plains Dynamics product line and worked on financials modules using Dexterity as the primary programming language. Around the same time, Great Plains also acquired Managed Ops out of Manchester, which had a product used to integrate products using BizTalk. I worked closely with the Managed Ops team to define the mappings for the integrations to move from the RealWorld products to Great Plains products. Around the same time, Great Plains purchased Solomon Accounting and we worked closely with the Solomon Accounting engineers to help them through their transition.In April of 2001, Microsoft purchased Great Plains, making the Great Plains employment duration short lived. In November of 1997, RealWorld bought the code base of the product line I worked on for Libra/IET Software.While at RealWorld, I worked as a Developer on Expertise, their next generation of Accounting software, bringing forward many of the features from the Libra/IET… Show more RealWorld was a Venture Capital Accounting software firm that created the Classic Accounting product line. This was their dominant product line until the company was purchased by Great Plains software in January of 2000. In November of 1997, RealWorld bought the code base of the product line I worked on for Libra/IET Software.While at RealWorld, I worked as a Developer on Expertise, their next generation of Accounting software, bringing forward many of the features from the Libra/IET product. My primary responsibilities included the SQL Database layer, that supported CTree, BTrieve, IBM UDB SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. The database layer managed all communications between the client and SQL Server, building SQL Statements from metadata describing classes and tables. The product was developed in C++. Other area responsibilities included Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, Accounts Payable and Payroll modules of Expertise Accounting. I also helped QA with designing and executing tests. All testing was manual.I also supported customers adopting the product through the beta program. The product was withdrawn from the market when RealWorld was purchased by Great Plains Software.
