When I created SpaBizBoard.com in 2006, it was the first online message board for spa professionals, spa owners and spa managers. It was a place where they could connect, discuss, share knowledge, and keep up with spa trends and the ever-changing licensing rules and regulations. Over the years, SpaBizBoard became a well-respected resource for the spa trade and many of today's estheticians credit SpaBizBoard for their success. I got into the spa business after making the decision to retire from a successful court reporting career and follow my dream of opening a day spa. Although my goal at the time was simply to be the owner and manager of a wellness business, I fell in love with esthetics and remained in the treatment room for 12 years. Eventually, my passion for the business side of the spa industry lured me out of the treatment room and now I am doing what I love most which is teaching, speaking at trade events and writing for trade publications.My first book, "Estheticians are a Girl's Best Friend" is a little book which was originally written for (and available only to) licensed estheticians to use as a marketing tool. Eventually, by popular request, it became available to consumers.My second book, "The Heart of Esthetics: Creating Loyal Clientele & Achieving Financial Success" was recently listed on the Best Short Read Financial Success Books (right below Oprah's book!).My third and most recent book, "Notes from Your Fairy Godmother - Ideas, Inspiration & Joy" was published in 2017. This book has a special place in my heart because it is geared specifically toward women who, I know from my almost two decades in the beauty business, are turning more and more to aggressive and sometimes dangerous measures in order to achieve society's definition of "beauty." So my plan for 2018 is to take my many years of experience and knowledge from the esthetics/beauty business and apply it to the field of wellness, especially for women.
