- Works with pre operative patients preparing them for their surgical experience. Calms patient’s fears and anxieties about possible or pending surgery.- Navigates and educates patients and families on their disease processes, medical/surgical procedures and therapeutic regimes, including medication and pain management- Collaborates with doctors, clinical associates, and supportive personal to meet patient’s medical, spiritual, cultural, and mental needs- Stimulates and encourages patients to make decisions that will maximize patient’s improvement and recovery- Exceptional skills and knowledge when caring for patients with chest tubes, wounds, nasogastric tubes, drains, wound vacuums, and incisions.- Works with a diverse patient population on a medical/surgical floorSuch as giving skilled nursing care to trauma patients (Motor vehicle accidents, falls, acute alcohol intoxication), surgical patients (general surgery, vascular complications, orthopedics, cancer, bariatric), and medical patients (pneumonia, infections, diabetics)- Administers oral, intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous medication- Serves as a preceptor for staff nurses in areas of patient care, policies and procedures- Exceptional time management skills when caring for multiple patients with complex careCharge Nurse 2007-2013(Abington) -serves as charge nurse with exceptional decision making skills in responsibilities such as -Delegates nurse and clinical associate assignments - Resolves problems that arise with staff, visitors and patients -Recommends and implements changes on the surgical unit regarding assignment delegation and prioritization.
