Wass & Co. Certificated Bailiffs acted for landlords collecting unpaid rent for business premises, we also acted for HM Customs & Excise (as was) collecting unpaid VAT from businesses and we also accompanied Inland Revenue officers whilst on their visits to collect unpaid PAYE. We acted on behalf of local councils too, collecting unpaid Council Tax and Non-Domestic Business Rates.

I started with the Natwest straight after A-Levels had finished. I began in the machine room working with a team of about six people processing the days entries and balancing the figures to ensure everything was reconciled and balanced before any of us went home. I moved onto regular payments dealing with standing orders and direct debits - enquiries and new instructions as well as looking into errors and problems. I transferred to a smaller branch where I took on more responsibility as Records Clerk, opening and closing accounts, updating changes of name and address. I also handled the foreign till in branch, arranging for currency orders by customers and also handling incoming and outgoing CHAPS transactions.I also had the opportunity to work more with the cashiers which led me to be given the role of Chief Chier for the branch, overseeing the balancing of each till at the end of the day and also the weekly tasks of ensuring that the branch always had enough to cover cash requests for payrolls for local businesses and dealing with Security Companies.
