HelioCampus was previously Academic Benchmarking Consortium, an education start-up in Chapel Hill. The focus of my role was mapping university payroll datasets to a standard activity model for an internal benchmarking database that provides insights to university clients about spending trends compared to their peers. Using my previous knowledge of video-editing, I also produced an animation video for their external website.

Worked at the Marian Cheek Jackson Center as part of four year work-study program focused on long-term community engagement and public service. Some of the work I participated in include: • Connecting community members in need with community and government programs, such as Wills Clinics, food bank access, and home refurbishing resources• Developing a community based research project about landlord and student tenant relations in the Northside neighborhood by leading a team of volunteers through a semester of door-to-door surveying• Delivering the Northside News, a Jackson Center-based monthly community newspaper• Authoring several articles in the Northside News• Creating media items for the organization through designing stickers, advertisements and pamphlets Learn more about this great organization: www.jacksoncenter.info

Spent a summer in Jackson, Mississippi at Hope Policy Institute, funded by the UNC Public Policy Department's Hodding Carter III Public Service Fellowship, researching and learning about policies in the Deep South and its impact on poverty.

Interned at the Obama White House with the Domestic Policy Council. Here, I experienced working in a fast-paced, exciting environment at the forefront of American policy.

Participated in a volunteer exchange program through San Marcos University in Lima, Peru, funded by the Bonner International Summer of Service Scholarship. I created interactive after-school programs for 2 elementary and middle school classes and taught students about cultural awareness and the importance of thinking globally, in order to enhance their skills for the future. I also immersed myself in Peruvian culture by living with a host family for six week, practicing international communication skills and spoken Spanish as part of an exchange program.

Contributed to the multimedia portion of UNC’s daily campus publication by utilizing my filming, video editing, and interview skills to produce 10 videos about campus life, celebrations, events, athletic events, and student organizations.

Sustained my work at the Marian Cheek Jackson Center as a AmeriCorps Summer Vista Associate by volunteering full-time—40 hours/week—in order to develop a deeper understanding of the inner workings of a non-profit.
