Affirm is a truly ethical and mindful company in the BNPL consumer lending space, creating honest financial products that improve lives. I supported strategic partnerships team, designing solutions that allowed us to build complex integrations with partner platforms. it was incredibly fun and challenging work. This role has a level of nuance, complexity and impact that made me excited to start every day.While at Affirm I worked with an incredible product team to create solutions that integrate browsers, major payment gateways and e-commerce platforms with our technical stack to increase our addressable transactions by billions.

The majority of my work here involved creating fast, effective, sustainable ETL pipelines for a wide range of clients including Visa and Mastercard.

Quantum Secure is an application that manages access and reporting across a range of physical security systems - they cater to a broad swathe of customers across all industries (airports, utilities, software vendors are just a few). Security has always been an area of interest for me, and learning about the needs of the physical security industry was a fascinating experience.

I was hired as a technical SME in credit risk to design and develop a new application for the bank to process cleared OTC derivatives. We sun expanded to provide that service to other financial entities as clients. After the initial product release the team grew from 2 people to 8 over 4 years as we accommodated more varied client needs, and added financial products and exchanges to the portfolio. As the team grew we shifted our processes toward an agile model, which evolved as we discovered what elements worked best for us. Switching the team to test driven development for our second major release was a fantastic learning experience.

I joined the professional services department as a member of the technical consulting team for a risk management product, which brought some new challenges for someone who began their career as a developer. I learned to handle many requirements at a time coming from different directions, and found I enjoyed the experience of frequently coming up with solutions for new problems brought to us by a wide range of financial services customers. As my experience within the space grew I increasingly mentored other resources and became the main liaison between the services and core engineering teams.

Datapac are an IT solutions manager based in Dublin – Ireland, who hired me to work on an upgrade project for software that was originally written in VB6. It was being converted to .Net and enhanced with new features, and a back-end optimization. I had my first real experience of a complex data problem on this migration.

Pioneer are an ISV that specialize in systems for meat and fish processing sites (product tracking, warehousing, logistics etc). During my time there I worked on both the core product and a bespoke project for a customer called EuroAuctions - a global provider of in-person and online auction infrastructure
