Full time volunteer Chair, CEO, leading the operation and development of the charity, staff and volunteers.www.wagandcompany.co.uk Personal experience of the important life, health and wellbeing impacts of visiting dogs for elderly dog lovers - as a dog lover, as a corporate volunteer for NWG and as a daughter with a father living with Dementia - provided the stimulus to commit to the development of an appropriately safeguarded home visiting service with dogs in our home region of the North East. Enabled also by support from individuals and local businesses, Wag & Company was launched in May 2016. Unique to the North East, Wag’s home visiting befriending service is available to all older and chronically/terminally ill dog lovers, free at the point of use, relying entirely on fundraising, donations and grants from everyone who believes Wag’s special friends are important to people’s lives, health and wellbeing. Wag also visits people in care and medical establishments with Northumbria Healthcare Trust badging Wag its Doggies on Prescription service. Wag & Company volunteers were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in June 2020 and Diane, a Points of Light Award from 10 Downing Street, for leading Wag & Company’s support for older people during the Covid-19 pandemic in October 2020.
