I started my fire service career with a BHAG (Fire Chief). I dedicated 24 years to relentlessly pursuing this goal through education, promotions, training, and professional development.I topped off my career by reaching the rank of Battalion Chief before making the difficult choice to leave the only job I had known for over half of my life. I sacrificed pieces of my soul and identity for years, sidestepping the messy middle to keep climbing. I focused on where the (promotion, project, opportunity) would take me.Most of my focus was on leadership; I LOVE leading, serving, & mentoring. From a young age, I was taught that work and personal life had to be kept separate. So, I did this for a long time until both of my lives exploded. During that dark Time, I realized that to be the best human, professionally and personally, I needed to be my authentic self and integrate my work and personal life.Navigating career transitions felt like I was reading a map blindfolded in the dark after spinning around 30 times.
