I'm a communication consultant with over 30 years of experience delivering skills training, group facilitation, and strategic messaging services to businesses, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and adult learners. I am committed to helping clients develop a more mindful and strategic approach to communication grounded in best practices and relevant social science research.I’m a former college professor and have co-authored several successful college-level textbooks including "Working in Groups," "Think Communication," "The Challenge of Communicating," and "Thinking Critically." "Working in Groups" is now in its 7th edition and continues to be a market leader among college group communication textbooks with translated editions selling internationally.I currently serve as vice president of the national Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters (LWVUS), a nonpartisan organization founded over 100 years ago dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. Previously, I served on the board and as the president of the League of Women Voters of Wake County. I am a past president of the ACLU of North Carolina and served on its board for many years. Over the years, I've been a guest speaker on various political issues, been interviewed by local and state media outlets, and presented public testimony or comment at the North Carolina legislature and to other local and state government entities. I am dedicated to promoting democratic processes, encouraging civic engagement, and advocating for equal rights.In our spare time, my husband and I enjoy learning about and collecting contemporary art. We place a special emphasis on supporting the work of local and regional artists. I previously served on the Board of Directors of Artspace in downtown Raleigh.
