Dr. Angel Diaz is Vice President of Business Technology Customer Success at Discover. Angel is passionate about helping product teams drive success through digital transformation, product engineering excellence, platform engineering and building skills together. An industry thought leader in product delivery, building talent and connecting developers through code, content and community, Angel is an open source pioneer and one of its biggest proponents. Angel has over 25 years of IT experience with specialization in Research, Product Development, Architecture, Product Management and Strategy. Over the majority of his career, Angel has held Vice President and Technology leadership roles in increasing responsibility at IBM focusing in the areas of Product Engineering, Open Source, Cloud Architecture, Developer Advocacy and Agile Software Development. At IBM, Angel was co-founder of the Call for Code Global Challenge, and established the company as a leading contributor to several open source technologies.Prior to Discover, Angel was the Global Director of Engineering at EY and Leader of the EY Development Experience focused on building the best technology products and platforms. In that role, Angel established a product engineering team consisting of thousands of developers worldwide across EY's Consulting, Financial Services, Strategy & Transformation, Tax and Assurance service lines.Angel is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a PhD in Computer Science. At his core, Angel truly understands he is so fortunate to be the beneficiary of others, growing up in Puerto Rico on a farm where his family gave him the passion and space to pursue math and computer science. He was the beneficiary of a college advisor to took him under his wing on hist first day at the University. He was the beneficiary of Tim Berners-Lee, the man who led the World Wide Web Consortium, who welcomed him into his group to help define many of the web standards that make applications ubiquitous today.
