As a Principal Architect, I'm responsible for the design and creation of corporate processes and systems, while ensuring that they comply with our legal obligations. I also operate as a full stack engineer outside of these duties.Accomplishments:- Built and deployed a search strategy using Elasticsearch, for full text search plus search-as-you-type search suggestions.- Designed and implemented a security posture to maintain lender compliance and reduce internal risk (AUP/BCP/Infosec).- Created a ETL pipeline to handle importing, normalizing/sanitizing, and storing MLS listings for tens of millions of properties around the United States.- Created and maintained many features for a Vue.js/Mapbox web application for searching home listings, some of which include map performance improvements, filtering, accessibility for vision impaired users, location boundary improvements (convex-hull and bounding boxes using known MLS listings for locations that had poor boundaries), and MLS compliance fixes.- Identified multiple areas in the stack for cloud cost saving, which ended up reducing our monthly GCP spend by approximately 30%.

A Senior Systems Architect at Endurance International Group is responsible for the design and development of corporate systems and processes. To be more specific, I had numerous responsibilities. To name a couple:- Create custom Linux kernel patches to solve domain-specific problems.- Design and develop internal tools to streamline workflows for other departments.- Manage all PCI/SOX compliant systems, and also ensure that changes occur within the framework of those regulations.- Ensure GDPR compliance for multiple customer data-processing systems.- Design, purchase hardware for, and implement systems to solve needs in the organization.Accomplishments:- Led and completed a full datacenter migration for a $225 million webhosting brand, into a greenfield datacenter space (and assisted in the buildout of the brand new datacenter space).- With my other senior peer, designed, developed, and implemented a ground-up PCI-compliant billing system redesign for this same brand, that now handles millions of dollars of revenue annually.- Designed, implemented, and maintained an OpenStack cluster for shared and dedicated customer servers, now hosting hundreds of thousands of customers.- Created numerous Linux kernel patches to alter the behavior of the operating system to be more webhosting-friendly- Integrated many > $10mm ARR short-deadline webhosting brand acquisitions+datacenter consolidations.

As a systems monitor, I was part of a team that was responsible for maximizing performance on shared and dedicated servers.We tracked various KPIs in a custom monitoring tool (and later, Zabbix) to ensure not only the best possible uptime for customers, but to also guarantee that customer mail would be delivered quickly, and that customer webpages would load optimally. I developed various small scale breakfixes that were deployed on single systems, and delegated large scale breakfixes to our senior tech team.I also investigated fleet-wide negative trends, and communicated these problems up to our senior management (CIO/CTO). These negative trends could be anything from security exploits in common customer software such as WordPress or Joomla, to hyperactive website crawlers, network outages, or even performance regressions caused by operating system updates.

I began my career at HostGator as a Level I Systems Administrator. It was my responsibility to not only develop robust technical solutions for customer issues, but deliver outstanding customer service as well. I helped customers with issues ranging from configuring email clients, to debugging their custom websites, to writing simple automation scripts. As a result of my hard work, I was promoted to a Level II Systems Administrator, where I worked on more complex customer problems such as deeper code debugging, hardware and network issues for customer dedicated servers, and data recovery. I was also responsible for handling customer escalations from management.I eventually decided to make a lateral move into the Security department, where I handled customer website exploits, dedicated server compromises, and customer fraud/abuse. I also gained experience in handling DMCA and law enforcement subpoenas. This experience helped round out my webhosting knowledge, so that I could progress into higher technical roles.
