Dr. Richard Curry is an expert on wind power site development and regulatory policy issues. He served for 10 years in the U.S. Department of Interior and has been in the wind industry since 1990. Management of interdisciplinary teams to resolve natural resource issues has been an important element of Dr. Curry’s relevant experience. While at the Department of Interior in the 1970s he managed the interagency - interdisciplinary Redwoods Task Force which was charged by the Secretary of the Interior to design a program for protecting Redwoods National Park from adjacent logging practices. For his work he received the Department of Interior Distinguished Service Award. This task force provided the factual basis for passage of the Redwoods Protection Act of 1979.He was one of the earliest in the wind industry to focus on the issue of birds and turbines. For Kenetech Windpower, Curry managed the first avian – wind power task force, an assemblage of some of the country's leading avian authorities. The group designed and implemented a multi-million dollar research effort in the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area in California. He tested the feasibility of using radar as a mechanism for curtailing turbine operations if large flocks of migrating birds returning from Africa flew over the Kenetech Project site in Tarifa, Spain.
