Dr. Dean co-founded Leading Edge Engineering, Inc., in 1993 after serving as Senior Vice President of General Atomics Reactor Group. He directed the R&D, engineering, manufacturing, QA, marketing and sales activities associated with GA's power reactors, research reactors, nuclear fuel, and nuclear waste management. He generated earnings of approximately 10% on annual revenues up to $60 million. He managed a staff of up to 600 people; the majority was professionals, half with advanced degrees.Most of his career was devoted to the design and development of systems and components for nuclear power plants. In directing international activities -- providing manufacturing and engineering support, marketing and supplying fuel and components, and negotiating and managing joint ventures -- he has had extensive interactions with utilities, industrial companies, and government agencies in the U. S., Germany, France, England, Belgium, Italy, Japan, Russia, and China. Designed ten nuclear power plants from inception to commercial operation, and initiated the design of another forty. Interacted intensively with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Advisory Committee for Reactor Safeguards, and Atomic Safety and Licensing Boards with extensive experience in specifications and equipment procurement.
