Working as part of a development team that is implementing new software to facilitate the selection of potential marrow donors for patients. As part of this I have developed a web enabled client to exercise the web service APIs that are part of the existing software within NMDP. As well, I have been performing the role of release manager, as we deliver versions of software to the QA Team.The technologies being used are Java, JPA, JTA, Java concurrency, Google Guice, web services and an Oracle database. The client application being developed uses Google Web Toolkit, Gin (dependency injection for GWT), JavaScript, and web services.

I performed requirements gathering, designed applications /features, implemented application features, and provided system support for Charter Solution's clients. This work required me to not only apply my extensive Java knowledge, but also provided me the opportunity to quickly learn and apply new technologies as they were deemed appropriate for each client's needs. In this role, I occasionally was required to concurrently provide services to multiple clients and complete special projects for the internal needs of Charter Solutions. In my tenure, I have managed and lead projects with budgets of $150,000 to $1.5 million. I have prepared and presented proposals for existing and potential clients; emphasizing areas where projects could be completed most efficiently.

For this regional insurance marketing agency, I developed a client management application deployed in the cloud using the Software as Service paradigm. This application was designed to manage the agency's clients, their policies, and other information to assist in future marketing to existing and future clients.This application was developed on the Force.COM platform, using both the Force.COM IDE and the native Force environment. The application included client specific reporting and was developed to be packaged and offered for sale on the Salesforce AppExchange.

For this national medical equipment provider, I was part of the development team that developed a new client facing website. This website provides UHS clients with the means to view and order UHS products for their medical facilities. My main responsibilities included LDAP authentication, product catalog presentation, user profile maintenance, adding products to the cart, and custom catalog maintenance.This Web application was developed using Java 6, JSP, JSF, JQuery, and Hibernate technologies. The application was built to authenticate against LDAP and interface with UHS back end systems using web service calls. Final production deployment of this application was in Websphere running on the AS/400 and utilizing a DB/2 database.

I provided database analysis and development for the MN Department of transportation project to replace their outdated Cultural Resource Information System. This involved addressing the concerns raised by MNDOT DBAs and structuring the Oracle 10g database to adhere the State of MN database standards. Additionally, I assisted the application developers with problematic Hibernate criteria queries and class definitions.

Along with performing my consulting assignments, I also managed a team of 6 developers. Each of these developers worked independently at remote client locations. I prepared and conducted performance reviews for the members of my team. I empowered my employees to improve their skills by keeping them aware of conferences, structured training and self-study opportunities. I interviewed and hired additional resources to fulfill client needs; including contracting with other consultants, as needed. For the management team, I prepared bi-monthly project reviews for the purpose of monitoring project profitability, work progress and potential future work. Additionally, I cultivated client relationships to keep abreast of future client needs and keep my employees engaged in fulfilling assignments.

I provided analysis and system prototyping for a system that would bring together a number of disparate systems across the United Health Group companies. This involved analysis of existing systems to determine the feature set and processes the new system would need to support. Other analysis involved determining where existing systems or development efforts would integrate into this new system and its processes.

For this client, I upgraded a complete ETL and reporting process to run on the newest Pentaho data integration and reporting platform. This involved configuring a completely new environment to host the ETL server, its supporting databases, and the reporting server. Once this migration was complete, a significant amount of updates were applied to the ETL process, the underlying data schemas, and finally the reports. These changes were the result of the business process changes and Pentaho improvements available with the upgrade. The end result of this process was the transformation of dozens of data files being collated, summarized and inserted into a SQL Server 2005 database. From this data, over 1000 reports were generated for the client. These reports were used for the planning of the next year's marketing activities.

For this new business start-up, I led the system definition, business/technical analysis, and architecture efforts to develop a Windows Forms based application. This application is the heart of this business and was designed to provide the client complete visibility into the management of a fleet of lease return vehicles; including intake, re-marketing to prospective buyers, sales, and final disposition of funds to the clients they represent. Document management, reporting, and integration to outside systems were also key components of this system. The application was written using C#, .NET, SQL Server 2005, SSIS, Crystal reports 2008, and web services. My responsibilities also included establishment of a best practices development environment, junior developer mentoring, and system testing.

I was the lead consultant on a team evolving a custom designed web-based application designed to manage a fleet of lease vehicles being marketed to car rental agencies. This was a highly entrepreneurial company in a constant state of change, requiring carefully architected solutions to ensure the base code remained scalable and extensible. This application utilized Java, Struts, SQL Server2000/2005, and Castor (persistence framework). It was implemented using clearly defined 3-tier service oriented architecture. Stored procedures were utilized to perform calculation-intensive monthly invoicing processes. My responsibilities included development of features, maintenance of all Transact-SQL stored procedures, UI modifications, version control and deployment, design and code review, junior developer mentoring, testing, and requirements gathering.

Member of a team that developed a Laboratory Information System designed to automate manual processes as well as an automated reporting and requisitioning capability directly connecting the lab to the clinics it served.This application was a Java based web application deployed on the lab's internal network. Technologies that I used in my efforts include Java, Struts, Tiles, JSP tag extensions, Hibernate, and Spring (for transaction management). I also was responsible for design of the data model, the persistent data objects, and management of Oracle database users and schemas.

I was a developer on a team that created a web-based Learning Management System that supported 180,000+ end users. I was involved in early design of many system components as well as the implementation and enhancement of those components. The application was created using Java, Servlets, JSP, Struts, JDBC, Java Relational Framework (JRF), LDAP, Jive (Java threaded discussion application), and Oracle 9i database.

I provided development for the re-writing Star Tribune's Work Avenue website. My responsibilities focused on development of administration functions for the website using Java, Java Beans, JSP, JavaScript, and a Sybase database.

I was a member of a team that developed the initial offering of the Learning Management System that BI offered with its web based training. My responsibilities included development and testing of product features. As well, I developed the integration of student history into the new system using Java command line programs. This work utilized Java, Java Beans, JavaScript, Oracle database, and iPlanet Web Application Server.

I Provided QA Support for a team developing a MVC Java application framework. I wrote Java programs to exercise the framework and test the framework's requirements. These programs were written using Java, HTTP APIs, JSP, XML, and JSP tag extensions. Additionally, I worked with VMware to configure different testing environments.

I provided application design and development expertise for the Twin Cities Electronic Commerce Forum website. I developed new pages using a combination of JSP, JavaScript, Java and HTML. I performed conversion of existing HTML pages to an enhance format using Java technologies.

My main responsibilities were to develop new systems for field personnel to manage Federated clients. These systems were developed using Visual Basic 6.0, and had multiple back end supporting processes written in COBOL. I was Team lead for a team that supported other legacy applications used within Federated and performed test lab management for all applications went through Y2K verification.

I developed and tested several PC-based programs, utilizing C, to translate seismic data from Bison's format to an industry standard format. These programs interfaced with reel-to-reel tape hardware to read in and write out these data files.

Maintained and revised an expert system used by product support and developed PC-based programs to test a new programmable controller.
