About Dick Thompson
After 23 years with Time Magazine (as reporter, correspondent and bureau chief) and eight years with the World Health Organization (as outbreak communication leader, and as the communication adviser to the Director-General) I have both a global and a ground level perspective on science, health and environmental issues, and on emergencies in these fields. I am currently a writer and editor focused largely on global health and climate change. I am the author of the non-fiction geology book "Volcano Cowboys" (St. Martin's Press 2001) and a former MIT Vannevar Bush Fellow in Science Journalism.Areas of interest: Climate change and global public health communications, global policy, journal and academic press editing, crisis communication, outbreaks, government relations, media, public relations, communication training, and non-fiction writing and editing.
