I am an Associate Professor of Psychology at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Spelman College, and my master’s and doctorate degrees in applied social and health psychology at Colorado State University. As a Black feminist social psychologist, I examine how members of underrepresented groups cope with and experience prejudice in the workplace and other contextual settings. In my main line of research, I explore the role of identity shifting, altering one’s behavior and language to fit in with a dominant social group, on Black women’s psychological health and self-perception, specifically as it relates to their participation in the workplace, and their personal and professional relationships. I am also the co‐founder of Beneath the Façade, a digital community and psycho-educational resource for Black women coping with stereotypical expectations in their work environment.
