Designing and implementing the core algorithms of a new analytics / data mining framework that is being built out.Experienced in creating and manipulating alternating decision trees, and using comparison classifiers to use pairwise comparison to develop the top ranked results from a search result set in linear time. My algorithms are better than using an eigenvalue-based ranker because populating the matrix would be quadratic. Currently Apple is considering filing a patent on this technology.Am handling most of the new lexical issues in our search engine.

Developed numerous improvements to the Map/Reduce subsystem of Apache HadoopDesigning substantial portions of a system which will make categorical improvements in the recency of Yahoo search results.Developed an engine, using techniques inspired by Latent Semantic Analysis, to deal with words having multiple meanings. The US issued three patents on my work: 7917496 [March 28, 2011], 7957957 [June 7, 2011] and 8135715 [March 13, 2012].Maintained lexical analysis engine used by Yahoo Search indexer and other Yahoo properties [together with one other developer].Designed phrase scanner that can maintain a phrase dictionary of tens of millions of phrases, together with attribute/value pairs to attach to recognized phrases, at a space cost of approximately 8.5 bytes per phrase. We can now have over 100 million phrases in our dictionary. Led ad hoc 2-man team to implement this.

Inktomi was acquired by Yahoo. The deal was signed in early 2003 and finalized in early 2004. See my next position for details about my role.

Worked on software to modify applications written with embedded competitors' SQL into a semantically equivalent application with embedded Oracle/SQL.

Designed communications protocols and semaphore/locking protocols for massively parallel computer systems with message-based communications. Intended application was Savastra's proprietary system with multiple shared specialized storage and networking engines. Planned modifications to Linux kernel to accommodate indefinite multiprocessor scaling without increased locking costs, and minimizing use of shared memory.Designed and implemented a simulator to explore engineering tradeoffs in design of interconnection network in a massively parallel computer system. Simulator was used to guide hardware design.

Developed software to the Network Appliance NetCache product:DNS lookup caching mechanism that enhances the product's resistance to denial-of-service attacks that flow through the cache testing tools to measure quality of service provided by a NetCache

Co-founded software reengineering tool company to commercialize software analysis and synthesis systems. The Refine[tm], is a programming language for writing tools to analyze programs. Refine is also a CAD tool that aids transformations of existing programs.Designed and implemented the Dialect[tm] system. Dialect is used to write lexical analyzers and grammars to parse software source files into an object base. Dialect represents a significant advance over YACC/Bison; it handles regular expressions, and directly couples with the object base representation of abstract syntax trees. Extended Refine/Ada[tm], a product that extended Refine to analyze Ada programs. The key features I added are proper handling of generics and tasks. I then used this tool to build the Ada Test Workbench (ATW). The key feature of ATW was control flow path feasibility analysis. ATW was used by Boeing in certifying 777 avionics software.numerous other successful projects
