STEIM is a network lab for artistic research in sound art and musicality in life. We are small, but famous for our excellence in coaching artists, designers and other makers to design and build new installations, instruments. Currently, we are broadening our scope—music becomes musicality, the concert venue becomes all of life.

I worked with teachers and researchers from different departments and curricula, involving them in practice based research relating to the changing role of public institutions in the network society (municipalities, museums, archives, broadcasters). We worked closely with the museum, the public library and the regional archive in Gouda, a town in the Netherlands that functions as a site to experiment with our ideas. During the last couple of years, we were involved in setting up different labs in neighbourhoods in the city of The Hague, that focused on innovations in cultural and social processes. During this, we also developed methods and techniques for reframing complex problems. All those methods took human meaning and values as a starting point for reframing.
