I took a sabbatical after a 22 year career, I saw many wonderful things and met many amazing people. I almost avoided the COVID policy mess. It feels great to have a schedule again, but I never stopped moving and I learned to rely on my instincts. The greatest lesson however, was that I have always had more than I needed.

I supported projects as a solutions architect in the energy distribution space. I was responsible for transitioning solutions from proof of concept to fully integrated and operationalized components of the ecosystem. I served on the architecture review board and assisted with the development of cloud and container strategy. I supported complex applications that served our energy demands and keep our power crews safe.

My mission is to help clients with planning, adoption, and deployment of cloud solutions built with automation on emerging technologies. I come to work to empower my colleagues and clients to experiment, to innovate, and to embrace a culture of continual education. I work with feature teams containing a number of SME’s on fixed output Agile IT projects.

I worked through a plethora of identity challenges as my agency became one of the first large consumers of Identity as a Service in the State of Ohio. We worked to get 67 applications ready for the cloud, and ported 3 CRM instances to Dynamics 365. By moving 36,000 users to the new identity platform, we were able to offload support, reduce infrastructure complexity, and reduce the complexity of interacting with the State of Ohio for many populations who consume multiple State services. I drove the cloud adoption road-map by prioritizing activities and providing architectural guidance to application development teams.

I worked on several facets of digital transformation including digital experience, mobile, identity, networking, data, collaboration, and security to lay a foundation for cloud services. I was part of initiatives to adopt Office 365, replace the intranet, upgrade application federation, implement cloud governance, try out predictive analytics, prioritize projects, modernize collaboration, prepare the network for cloud velocity, build a foundation for micro-services strategy and simplify the login experience across the stack.

My goal was to assist customers with a cloud 1st mindset to achieve predictable costs when implementing cloud solutions and respond faster to changes in demand from their stakeholders. Increased presence often introduces inherent risks. I identified the causes for concern and aided clients in combining policy with technology to mitigate risk in key areas and respond rapidly to new threats. I enjoyed working on the tip of spear proving out innovative solutions using new technologies for companies seeking an edge over the competition.

Many engagements required deep technical knowledge in a specific technology domain and I learned to grow at the pace of the industry. Some solutions involved forms and workflow, BI, process modeling, business analysis, development, testing, and deployment. Others involved automating infrastructure deployments, identity & access management, migrations, federation, issue resolution, networking or security. A focus on collaboration allowed me to stay on the forefront of the internet and business social movements and enabled me to take dynamic steps toward the Cloud. Consulting for Microsoft, I gained experience working with global Enterprise customers at large institutions where I broke apart big problems to collaborate with disparate teams. I served as part of the Server Administration Group supporting many facets of daily operations while building new information systems that directly contributed to increased productivity, cost savings, and service enhancements. I also supported the following programs: Strategic National Stockpile, Newborn Screening, Laboratory Information Systems, Blood Alcohol Testing, Immunization, Shipping and Recieving, Forms & Literature, HAZCAT, and I was the technical lead for the Cleveland Fire MREV project (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_/ai_n26920769); I was a principal technician and/or architect for Enterprise services including SharePoint, RightFax, .NET Web Applications & Services, Active Directory, Windows Servers, External portals, IRMS and offered assistance with Citrix, VMWare, Hardware upgrades, and various types of systems integrations. I was involved in deployment of secure HL7 medical records transmissions, a sample custody tracking software deployment, video conferencing, CDC communication feeds and laboratory staff proficiency systems. Some major achievements were a systematic relocation of a state laboratory without any program experiencing more than a single business day of outtage and building a hardened extranet SharePoint farm and deploying custom code to support the H1N1 pandemic in 10 calendar days.
