Prinses Máxima Centrum Voor Kinderoncologie

My project focuses on invasive fungal diseases in childhood cancer. Invasive fungal diseases (IFDs) are life-threatening infections with a high morbidity and mortality rate in immunocompromised and hospitalized pediatric patients, including patients with hematological malignancies. These infections are most commonly caused by Aspergillus species and Candida species. Prevention and treatment of IFDs are challenging, especially because of the interaction with some chemotherapeutic drugs. Furthermore, a limited amount of studies addressed the pharmacokinetics of antifungal agents in pediatric patients. The overall aim of this research project is to develop and/or optimize dosing strategies with antifungal agents for the prophylaxis and treatment of IFDs in pediatric patients.This project is studied in collaboration with the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen and supervised by Dr. W.J.E. Tissing (Máxima), Dr. T.F.W. Wolfs (WKZ) and Dr. R.J. Brüggemann (Radboudumc).https://research.prinsesmaximacentrum.nl/en/research-groups/tissing-group
