I am Chaired Professor of Governance and Finance and Founder/Director of the IMD Global Board Center, whose mission is to help boards be their best. My teams and I provide the latest thinking on best-in-class governance, risk and opportunity optimization, investment selection and strategy design. We work with boards towards improving and energizing their effectiveness. I also participate to the Stewardship Institute, whose goal is to promote long term perspectives with positive social impact through research and advocacy, and I chair PNYX Group, which improves the performance of financial investments for large asset owners (sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, wealthy families) through governance. Finally, I am a principal behind the methodology of the Good Governance Fund, a fund that invests in better governed companies with an integrated methodology. Governance is the ability to make the right decision at the top of the organizations. We are advocates of adapting governance work to the incredible social, geopolitical and technological transformation taking place in many regions of the globe. We have developed a clinical perspective that helps identify concrete avenues to energize great governance and spot potential threats to effective governance. We use diagnostic tools (such as the Four Pillars of Effectiveness).To fully improve governance, we address different factors: knowledge gaps, psychological biases, interpersonal dynamics, social and cultural drivers, technological changes (such as in information issues), strategic choices and/or governance practices or malpractices!My latest research focuses on the governance of investments with a top down view. I also work on how governance impacts performance & ESG, both short term and long term. My previous research addressed stewardship, how to lead organizations with positive impact for the long term. Both use natural content analysis (the analysis of language) as methodology. My past research has also dealt with the role of boards in strategy, risks, large transactions and financial decision making.My work has taken me to some of the world's leading business institutions across countries and continents (Europe, US, China, Middle East, South East Asia, Africa, Latin America, Canada, Australia). It also took me to some of the world’s leading investors (large asset owners such as sovereign wealth funds or some of the wealthiest families), as well as to supervisory authorities, central banks, ministries, supranational organizations, and influential humanitarian and non-profit organizations.
