Served as peer mentor to first year students in the course. Often required drawing in my own personal background and experiences to illuminate spark discussion. Responsibilities included designing excursions around the city related to class, coordinating guest speakers in and outside of class, engaging with students during class, and holding weekly office hours. The instructor of record was Dr. Vidal-Ortiz, Associate Professor of Sociology.

Co-taught pilot class designed to immerse first-year college students in the college experience and that encourages them to critically reflect on aspects of their identity and their transitional experience to college. The class meets once per week but includes weekly office hours with small groups of students. Grading, leading discussions, and acting as a resource to my students are core tenets of this position.

Served as faculty assistant for two separate courses. Responsibilities included facilitating discussions and fostering learning spaces that help students absorb course material and engage in class. The position entailed holding weekly office hours and assisting in-class discussions on topics ranging from media representations to work and economic life. The instructor of record for both courses was Dr. Vidal-Ortiz, Associate Professor of Sociology.

Worked on a project focused on analyzing a science lesson lesson taught to fifty-one 5th graders in the East Bay Area. The lesson used Virtual Reality technology, with videos and sounds grounded in their local neighborhood using Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP). The purpose of the study was to address the intersectional effects of the national shift away from science education in public schools and the historical impact of culturally insensitive teaching on students of color in urban areas. My role was focused on coding, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from the responses of the students. The data analysis has focused on understanding how the students interacted with the virtual reality and the culturally relevant content of the lesson.

Advised and oversaw a dozen incoming college freshman as they took classes and attended seminars through the TRiO Program at the University of Utah. Engaged in mentorship and was a 24/5 resource to students. Critically discussed with the students about social issues and content from their classes and assisted students in working through college level coursework.
