About Diego A. Millan

I am currently an Associate Professor of English and Africana Studies at Washington and Lee University. My first book, Laughing at the End of the World (under contract, Duke UP), examines how enduring legacies of racism inform understandings and practices of laughter. I have presented on topics such as the deconstruction of racial whiteness through voice in Frank Webb’s The Garies and Their Friends as well as laughter in the work of Chester Himes.Research for this work has been supported by grants from the Social Science Research Council, the Institute for Citizens and Scholars, and W&L Lenfest grants.For the most current information about my research, please see my personal website.
