No cookie-cutters here.As an architect and sustainability specialist working in the Australian property industry for 25 years, I have been able to bring a wealth of experience around sustainability master planning & strategy, policy development, corporate sustainability plans and cultural change to my work and the clients I've serviced. In doing so, I have developed the ability to unlock intrinsic value in existing assets, people and processes and helped businesses build on this value through sustained growth that presents wins for people, planet, and the bottom line.I maintain the view that 'everyone can win' when there is a shared goal and healthy collaboration among the team. I help clients unlock intrinsic value in the assets and processes they already have, and by driving positive cultural change that harnesses the power of every team member to be a change agent for sustainability. In leading the sustainability team for Umow Lai in NSW I partnered closely with clients, design & delivery teams and other stakeholders to embed high-value sustainability across various national projects. In doing so, I placed a particular focus on building performance, corporate sustainability and creating local community uplift.Key project works included development of sustainability policy and strategy, and building performance processes for local government; developing sustainability master plans for secondary schools, addressing property assets and cultural change; Level 3 energy audits for local government; creating carbon-neutral pathways for multiple projects and organisations; and establishing and developing internal sustainability programs and cultural change.

Leading the sustainability team within the Sydney office, I worked across multiple portfolios but in particular property, transport and land development. Key projects included various public transport infrastructure projects, developing sustainability strategies for major projects and project bids (including Green Star and ISCA); energy efficiency programs and stakeholder engagement for a number ADF bases; and zero-footprint pathways for major mixed-use property developments in Australia and NZ. Further, I significantly contributed at a leadership level to the development of internal sustainability programs and performance improvement.

This was an exciting time starting my own consulting business. I was successful in building a solid body of projects centred around sustainable development - providing architectural and consulting services to owners, fund managers and developers, architects, engineers, contractors and product manufacturers. Synergy Green delivered a diverse range of projects relating to sustainable property delivery, including green certifications, master planning, development controls design for Councils, creation of internal sustainability rating systems, delivery of training to industry and authorities, and high-end sustainabiliy advice to the building design and engineering sector.

During a wonderful 10 years at Woodhead, I worked as a design architect across most property sectors, including aviation, residential, retirement and aged care, hospitality and resorts, commercial and retail developments. Focussing on larger scale buildings and master plans, I was responsible for design in the Sydney studio and also managed the residential and hotel portfolios. I was extensively involved at the front end of projects, responsible for master planning and feasibility optioneering, planning authority liaison and presentations, concept design and development applications. With a direct design and delivery team of around 12-15 staff, I enjoyed leading a vibrant team culture with high quality output, excellent client feedback and repeat business with a staff turnover rate well below industry averages.Of note I also held the role of Group Sustainability Manager, responsible for developing and embedding sustainable design knowledge and processes throughout all offices in Australia and Asia, and was also the key driver in establishing the business carbon footprint and carbon neutral pathway - the first design consultancy in Australia to take this step.
