I have a BSc in Environmental Science from Galen University and an AS in Biology & Chemistry from the Corozal Junior College. While completing my bachelor’s, I had the privilege to participate as a delegate in the 34th Model Organization of American States which was held in Costa Rica. Galen’s delegation was assigned to act as Mexico for the conference; therefore, we had to conduct extensive research on the country to well represent them. For the Fall 2019 semester, I earned a scholarship to study in Canada as an exchange student. In my last semester at Galen University, I was appointed Liaison Officer for the Student Government Association; I was in charge of conducting meetings and planning and coordinating social media engagement.After I completed my associate degree, I took a one-year break and worked as a post-production, photographer, and videographer assistant as well as an associate photographer for Leonardo Melendez Photography. Hence, I am proficient with professional cameras and Adobe Photoshop.During my free time, I have kept busy by volunteering with NGOs. I have volunteered on multiple community cleanups with Oceana, Friends of Corozal United for Sustainability, and community youth groups. From 2016-2020, I helped as an Assistant Manager for Serving Christ Ministry’s Breakfast Feeding Program in San Ignacio. I volunteered as a citizen scientist for Friends of Conservation and Development’s Scarlet Macaws Bio-monitoring Program.None of the above would have been possible if I hadn’t been awarded a scholarship to the Caribbean Science Foundation’s Student Program for Innovation in Science and Engineering in Barbados back in 2014. This four-week, science intense program helped me realize I belong in the sciences, traveling and helping others. One way or the other, all these opportunities have helped refine my communication, problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, time management, adaptability, and social skills.
